    Hi there,
it is about this page https://xn--regional-entrmpelung-1ec.de/.
The sitemap ist not working. The following mistakes occur even after some troubleshooting.

    1. the sitemap does not have the pages and the post pages, there is directly only several pages sitemaps
    2. 4 of 14 the pages sitemaps have an 404 error – all of them show a “sitemap could not be read” and the reason is a “General HTTP error”
    3. in the google search console it only shows in the sitemap section only 1.181 pages, in the pages area it shows “1.099” pages that are indexed. 1.829 pages are not indexed.

How can I fix the sitemap issue and get all the links into the sitemap and therefore for google?

    Thanks
    GERD

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issues you are facing with your sitemap. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problems:

    1. Flush Permalinks

If you are encountering 404 errors, it’s a good idea to flush your permalinks. You can do this by navigating to Settings → Permalinks in your WordPress admin area and clicking the Save Changes button, even if you don’t make any changes. This often resolves issues related to sitemap accessibility.

    Flush permalink settings

    2. Check Sitemap Configuration

Make sure your sitemap is correctly configured. You can validate your sitemap using the Validate XML Sitemap tool. If there are any issues detected, it will provide guidance on what needs to be fixed.

    3. Ensure Posts Are Set to Index

Check that your posts are set to index. Go to Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta and ensure that the Index checkbox is enabled for your posts. If all posts are set to noindex, they won’t appear in the sitemap.

    Index Titles and Meta settings

    4. Review Sitemap Settings

In Rank Math SEO → Sitemap Settings, ensure that you have not blocked any important post types or taxonomies from being included in your sitemap. Make sure all relevant content types are checked.

    5. Check for Plugin Conflicts

Sometimes, other plugins can interfere with the sitemap functionality. You can use the Health Check plugin to identify any potential conflicts.

    6. Clear Cache

If you have caching enabled on your site, clear your cache after making changes to ensure that the latest version of your sitemap is being served.

    7. Monitor Google Search Console

After making these adjustments, monitor Google Search Console for any updates or changes in the sitemap status. If you continue to see errors, consider renaming your sitemap file as suggested by John Mueller, which can sometimes resolve persistent issues.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further.

Thank you for raising this concern! We hope this helps you get your sitemap working properly soon!

    Hello,

We checked your sitemap, and we can see only the /page-sitemap4.xml is returning a 404 error. In this case, please try to follow the steps below and see if that works for you:

    1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/pipRDp

    2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

Once done, clear your website cache, remove all the submitted sitemap, and resubmit only the /sitemap_index.xml in the Search Console.

Regarding the indexing issue, please check your Google Search Console Page Indexing report to determine any issues reported on your site: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/7440203?hl=en

You can share the error message or take a screenshot using this tool and add the link here so we can check as well.

Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hi there,

    I did that.
In my case sitemap 4 does not bring an error any longer. But now 5 and 8 do not work. I followed the steps to flush the sitemap. But that did not work (already tried that several times).

    What else can I do?

    Adding something.

I do not know why… but now I have to trouble with the sitemap anymore… at least not with 404 mistakes.

However, I have a problem with the indexing… That means:

There are 2,618 pages in wordpress
Google Search Console only knows 1,120
    and
SEOBILITY (my seo tool) only knows 1,134

Also, the sitemap doesn’t cover all pages and I don’t know why…

What can I do that the sitemap covers more or ALL pages?

    What can I do?

    Hello,

Please note that sitemaps are by default set to Noindex as they are meant to be crawled and not to be displayed on search results pages.

You should only submit your sitemap to the sitemap section of your GSC account and if Google can fetch the sitemap, you don’t have to worry.

However, we checked your sitemap again and we can see all the page sitemaps are now working properly without any issues: https://i.rankmath.com/v/7cEGN9

Regarding the indexing issue, please test some affected URLs in the URL Inspection Tool and share the screenshot of the result with us: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/9012289?hl=en

You can use any image-sharing tool like https://imgur.com/upload to share the screenshot.

    Thank you.
