Sitemap not up to date

    Rank Math free

I have been working on a site, which has been pushed from development to live.

The sitemap on the live site loads but it is not up to date. It’s still showing the URLs of the old pages, when new ones have been added which do not show. I’ve just checked the XML sitemap on the dev site and it shows 25 pages – the live site has 7.

The last update to the live site sitemap was on 2025-04-28 15:10 +00:00.

I have been through all the steps here https://support.rankmath.com/ticket/sitemap-not-updating-in-rank-math-2/ but it has not fixed the issue. Please help.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with your sitemap not being up to date. It sounds like there may be a caching issue or a conflict that is preventing the new URLs from appearing in your live site’s sitemap.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

    1. Flush the Sitemap Cache: Sometimes, the sitemap cache needs to be cleared for changes to take effect. You can do this by going to Rank Math > Sitemap Settings and clicking on the "Flush Cache" button.

    2. Check for Caching Plugins: If you are using any caching plugins, ensure that the sitemap is excluded from caching. You can find instructions on how to exclude sitemaps from caching here.

    3. Check for Plugin Conflicts: Use the Health Check plugin to determine if there is a conflict with another plugin or theme that might be affecting the sitemap generation.

    4. Verify Sitemap Settings: Ensure that all the necessary post types and taxonomies are enabled in the Rank Math sitemap settings. Go to Rank Math > Sitemap Settings and check if the new pages are set to be included in the sitemap.

    5. Manual Update: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you can try manually regenerating the sitemap by going to Rank Math > Sitemap Settings and toggling the sitemap module off and then back on.

If you have tried all these steps and are still experiencing issues, please reply to this ticket with your site URL so that a human agent from our support team can assist you further. Thank you for your patience!

    Hi,

I have tried all these steps and the issue is still not resolved.

The page sitemap does not show the correct URLs in Health Check Troubleshooting Mode (i.e. with all plugins disabled except Rank Math and Twenty Twenty Four enabled.

By the way, there is no “Flush Cache” button in the Sitemap Settings. I have increased the number of Links Per Sitemap by 1 and saved. I have also tried disabling and re-enabling the sitemap from the Rank Math Dashboard.

Please advise on what I can do next.

    Hello,

Thank you for your query and we are so sorry about the trouble this must have caused.

    Please follow the steps below:

    1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/pipRDp

    2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

    3. Apply the following filter code to your site.

    add_filter( 'rank_math/sitemap/enable_caching', '__return_false');

Here’s how you can add filter to your WordPress site:https://rankmath.com/kb/wordpress-hooks-actions-filters/

    4. Remove all your sitemaps from your Google Search Console and re-submit only the index sitemap (https://website.com/sitemap_index.xml)

If the issue persists, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.

We really look forward to helping you.

Thank you, that worked. I have resubmitted the sitemap to Google Search Console. Does it take a while to discover and index all the pages?

    Hello,

Yes, Google assigns a crawl budget to your website depending on these factors (especially these two), and that has a direct effect on how soon or how late your content can get crawled/indexed.

It depends on a lot of factors. Your posting frequency + the domain authority are just two of the many factors Google considers when indexing URLs.

If you have already set your pages to index, then it is just a waiting game before Google decides to include the URL in the search results pages.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Hello,
