Sitemap not fetched by GSC

Cannot submit to GSC to have my site map indexed: https://videodownloader.fun/sitemap_index.xml is “unable to be fetched”. I’ve read your website articles about various options to fix this but nothing has worked.

Also in Cpanel file manager, I CANNOT see (or find) the sitemap file in my root folder or anywhere in the website directory, even though I can see the file ok in my browser…

It seems like maybe there’s a redirection happening that is causing GSC to be unable to see or fetch the sitemap, even though I can browse to the sitemap file? Confusing…

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with your sitemap not being fetched by Google Search Console (GSC). It can indeed be confusing when the sitemap is accessible in a browser but not being recognized by GSC.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Check Sitemap URL

Ensure that you are submitting the correct sitemap URL in GSC. The correct format should be:

    https://rankmath.com/blog/clear-cache-in-wordpress/

    2. Validate Your Sitemap

Use the Validate XML Sitemap tool to check if your sitemap is correctly configured. If there are any issues, this tool will help identify them.

    3. Flush Permalinks

Sometimes, flushing permalinks can resolve fetching issues. You can do this by going to Settings → Permalinks in your WordPress dashboard and clicking Save Changes without making any modifications.

    4. Check Robots.txt

Make sure that your robots.txt file is not blocking access to your sitemap. You can check this by going to Rank Math SEO → General Settings → robots.txt and ensuring there are no rules preventing access.

    5. Check for Redirection Issues

If you suspect a redirection issue, you can use tools like httpstatus.io to check the status code of your sitemap URL. It should return a status code of 200. If it returns a different status code, that could indicate a problem.

    6. Caching Issues

If you have caching plugins installed, try clearing your website cache and then resubmit the sitemap in GSC.

    7. Check for Plugin Conflicts

Sometimes, other plugins may conflict with Rank Math. You can use the Health Check plugin to identify any potential conflicts.

If you’ve tried all these steps and the issue persists, please reply to this ticket with any additional details or error messages you might be encountering, and a human agent from our support team will assist you further.

Thank you for raising this concern, and we hope to help you resolve it soon!
