    Rank Math free

Hi, I was talking to someone here last week and it seems the issue I was having isn’t fixed. Search console is telling me that one of my sitemaps is returning a no-index tag. I have it set to index this sub-folder in Rank Math settings. Links to images below. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting the support, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

The noindex tag is added to the sitemaps on purpose, and you shouldn’t change that. It is added so that the sitemap itself doesn’t get included in the Google search index.

The sitemaps are intended to be crawled by the search engines but not get indexed on the SERPs.

You can also use this tool for validating your sitemap: https://www.xml-sitemaps.com/validate-xml-sitemap.html

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.

I get that. So why am I getting the error messages displayed in the screenshots. I’ve checked the settings in Rank Math, I’ve validated the sitemap, and Moz Pro has no issue crawling the site. Why this issue with Search Console.

    Many thanks, Adam.

    Hello,

In the screenshot https://ibb.co/fQzVkVD, I see that you have submitted all the sitemaps to your Google Search Console.

Please note that you only need to submit the main sitemap – /sitemap_index.xml to the Search Console. Google will use the main sitemap to fetch the other sitemaps.

Could you please remove all the sitemaps from Google Search Console and only submit the main sitemap – /sitemap_index.xml and check if this fixes the issue?

Regarding the screenshot https://imgbb.com/26r36X7, as my colleague mentioned above – The noindex tag is added to the sitemaps on purpose, and you shouldn’t change that. It is added so that the sitemap itself doesn’t get included in the Google search index.

So, you do not need to worry about this.

    Hope this helps.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

If you don’t know why, please say that.

I have only submitted one sitemap, this is the view when you click on the sitemap I submitted. As you can see /portfolio has an issue. I’m asking you why that is?

    Hello,

Can you please share the URL of your site in the sensitive data section so we can check this further?

Also, please click on the portfolio sitemap and share the details about the Couldn’t Fetch error.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thanks.
