    Rank Math free

Hi, I see on Google Search Console that a lot of my posts are not being indexed because there’s no sitemap referral and when I check the Rank Math sitemap I see it’s because it’s incomplete. Any ideas why this is? The posts have not been marked as no index so should appear.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with your sitemap and the indexing of your posts. There are a few reasons why your sitemap might be incomplete, which could lead to some posts not being indexed by Google.

    1. Custom Canonicals: If you have set custom canonical URLs for your posts, those posts may not appear in the sitemap. Rank Math includes a self-referencing canonical for all posts set to Index by default. If you want all your posts to be shown in the sitemap, consider removing the custom canonical from those posts so that Rank Math can generate the canonical correctly.

    2. Robots.txt Rules: Ensure that your robots.txt file does not contain any rules that block Google from crawling your posts. You can check and edit your robots.txt file in Rank Math under Rank Math SEO → General Settings → Edit Robots.txt.

    3. Plugin Conflicts: Sometimes, conflicts with other plugins can cause issues with the sitemap generation. You can check for plugin conflicts using the Health Check plugin.

    4. Sitemap Settings: Make sure that the settings for your sitemap in Rank Math are configured correctly. You can review these settings under Rank Math SEO → Sitemap Settings.

    5. Caching Issues: If you are using a caching plugin, it might be serving an outdated version of your sitemap. Clear your cache and regenerate the sitemap to see if that resolves the issue.

If you’ve checked these areas and are still experiencing issues, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further.

Thank you for raising this concern!

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Could you please confirm if you’re not able to see all the posts in the Rank Math generated sitemap? If so, please share some affected URLs here so that we can check this further for you.

Meanwhile, please try to follow the steps below and see if that works for you:

    1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:

    2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:

Regarding the “no referring sitemap detected” message, it is not related to the indexing issue.

This message means the page has been discovered by Google, and Google knows about it.

Please note that a sitemap is only one of many ways Google discovers the URLs of your site. If Google discovers the URL through other means, it may not cross-reference your sitemap to check if the URL is there. Hence the “No referring sitemaps” message.

Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.
