Sitemap Issues

Hey, I keep having issues with both the xml and html versions of my sitemap. With the xml version, some of the main sitemap urls return 404 errors. I have double checked they are enabled in the RankMath sitemap settings and those categories are live on the site so I’m not sure why it does this. For example, the product-type sitemap is not working right now: https://panaeoluscoop.com/sitemap_index.xml

I set up the html version to see if that one would work but both Google and GPT are unable to load it. Google says it can’t fetch it and GPT says it won’t load. It loads fine for me though so I’m not sure why they can’t access it. I’ve gone through all RankMath’s troubleshooting steps, made sure nothing at the CDN level was blocking it, excluded it from cache, try regenerating it and also saved permalinks but they still cannot access it. Why? https://panaeoluscoop.com/html-sitemap/

  • Hello,

I apologize for the issues you are facing with your sitemap. It sounds like you’ve already taken several steps to troubleshoot the problem, which is great. Here are a few additional suggestions that might help resolve the 404 errors for your XML sitemap and the fetching issues for your HTML sitemap:

    For the XML Sitemap:

    1. Flush Permalinks: Since you mentioned saving permalinks, ensure you do this again by navigating to Settings → Permalinks in your WordPress dashboard and clicking Save Changes without making any changes. This can often resolve 404 errors.
      Flush permalink settings

    2. Check for Plugin Conflicts: Use the Health Check plugin to see if there are any conflicts with other plugins that might be affecting the sitemap.

    3. Check Robots.txt: Ensure that your robots.txt file is not blocking access to your sitemap. You can check this in Rank Math SEO → General Settings → robots.txt.

    4. Sitemap Validation: Validate your sitemap using the Validate XML Sitemap tool to ensure it is correctly configured.

    For the HTML Sitemap:

    1. Check Server Response: Use a tool like httpstatus.io to check the status code of your HTML sitemap. Ensure it returns a 200 status code.

    2. Caching Issues: Since you mentioned excluding it from cache, double-check that there are no caching rules at the CDN level that might be affecting access to the HTML sitemap.

    3. User-Agent Blocking: Sometimes, certain user agents (like Googlebot) may be blocked by security plugins or server settings. Ensure that your server or any security plugins are not blocking these user agents.

If these steps do not resolve the issues, please reply to this ticket with any error messages you receive or additional details about your setup, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further. Thank you for your patience!
