Sitemap Issues

    Rank Math free

    Hi.

I’ve been using RankMath for several years now, but over the past few months, I’ve experienced lots of issues with the Sitemap for one of my websites (spookysight.com). Google Search Console can only read some of the items in the sitemap (https://spookysight.com/sitemap_index.xml):

    – 73 out of the 95 posts have been discovered (despite the fact I manually requested each of the 95 to be indexed, and 91 of them are currently indexed).
    – 0 out of 14 categories have been discovered, and I’m getting the “Couldn’t fetch” and ”
Sitemap could not be read” error message in Google Search Console.
    – 0 out of the 6 pages have been discovered. Same errors as above.

On top of that, every few days some of my posts are being temporarily removed from Google Search Results due to “Temporary Sitemap Error” and I have to manually resubmit them.

And another issue: some posts (like this one https://spookysight.com/ghost-hunting-equipment-full-checklist/) show as “URL not in Google” because “No referring sitemaps detected” and Crawl and Indexing sections are all N/A. That despite manually submitting these pages 10+ times so far.

I don’t know what’s going on. I had issues with Bing too. Bing could only read 40-50% of the entire sitemap. I tried to resubmit the sitemap multiple times to both Bing and Google Search Console but that didn’t fix it. I uninstalled and reinstalled Rank Math, I changed the Links Per Sitemap limit, nothing works.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

We checked your sitemap and we can see it is working properly without any issues.

In this case, please try to follow the steps below and see if that works for you:

    1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/pipRDp

    2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

Once done, clear your website cache, remove all the submitted sitemap, and resubmit only the /sitemap_index.xml in the Search Console.

If the issue persists, please try to follow this guideline for further troubleshooting: https://rankmath.com/kb/couldnt-fetch-error-google-search-console/

Regarding the “URL is unknown to Google” error, it indicates that Google has not discovered this URL before and has not crawled it yet. Since you already requested manually to index this URL, we suggest you wait a while and let Google crawl this URL.

Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hey.

Yeah, I think it worked. I don’t know which step fixed the issue because I tried all :). But for the first time, I can see all my posts and pages in the Search Console (see image here: https://imgur.com/a/g2uO5PM).

    I appreciate your help!

    Hello,
