Sitemap Issue

    Dear Rank Math Support Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I am experiencing an issue with the sitemaps on two of my websites, both of which are using Rank Math. Although the sitemaps are being fetched by Google Search Console, it does not discover any URLs from them. This issue has persisted despite the sitemaps being accessible and appearing correctly on Google.

Here are the details of the affected websites:

    https://sklegal.ca/sitemap_index.xml
    https://canadalegalguidance.com/sitemap_index.xml
I have checked and confirmed that the sitemaps are discoverable and correctly formatted. However, Google Search Console does not appear to index any of the URLs from these sitemaps. I’ve also ensured that there are no errors or issues with the sitemap files themselves.

Could you please assist me in resolving this issue? If there are any settings or additional steps I need to take within Rank Math to ensure proper sitemap functionality with Google Search Console, kindly let me know.

Thank you for your support, and I look forward to your assistance in resolving this matter.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the sitemaps on your websites. Thank you for providing the URLs; this helps us understand your situation better.

Since your sitemaps are accessible and correctly formatted, but Google Search Console is not discovering any URLs, here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Validate Your Sitemap: Use the Validate XML Sitemap tool to ensure that your sitemap is correctly configured. If it returns a success message, then your sitemap is likely fine.

    2. Check Indexing Settings: Ensure that your posts are set to index. Go to Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta and check the Robots Meta settings to ensure the Index checkbox is enabled.

    3. Add the Sitemap to Google Search Console: Make sure you have added the correct sitemap URL in Google Search Console under Indexing → Sitemaps. If you haven’t done this yet, paste your sitemap URL and click SUBMIT.
Add the sitemap to Google Search Console

    4. Flush Permalinks: Sometimes, flushing permalinks can resolve issues with sitemap accessibility. Go to the Permalinks settings in your WordPress dashboard and click Save Changes without making any modifications.

    5. Check for Plugin Conflicts: If you have other plugins installed, there might be conflicts affecting your sitemap. You can use the Health Check plugin to identify any potential conflicts.

    6. Wait for Google to Fetch: If everything seems correct, it might just be a matter of waiting for Google to fetch and index the URLs from your sitemap. Sometimes, it can take time for Google to process new sitemaps.

If you’ve tried these steps and are still experiencing issues, please reply to this ticket with any additional details or errors you may have encountered, and a human agent from our support team will assist you further.

Thank you for your patience, and we look forward to helping you resolve this matter!

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math support, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

This means Google didn’t use the sitemap to find the URLs.

It mostly happens when you have good internal linking or use the Instant Indexing plugin.

In this case, you either have to wait for the search engines to completely crawl the sitemaps or let it be since sitemaps are just a backup crawling mechanism for search engines. Usually, the URLs are discovered via other means such as internal links or backlinks.
