Hello,
We apologize for the issue you are facing with the sitemap showing a "couldn’t fetch" error in Google Search Console. This can be caused by several factors. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Rename the Sitemap File
Sometimes, changing the name of the sitemap file can help. In Google Search Console, go to Indexing → Sitemaps and paste the following sitemap URL:
https://yourdomain.com/?sitemap=1
2. Fix Sitemap Issues
- Validate Your Sitemap: Use the Validate XML Sitemap tool to check if your sitemap is correctly configured.
-
Ensure the Sitemap is Located in the Root Folder: Make sure your sitemap is in the root folder of your WordPress installation:
https://yourdomainname.com/sitemap_index.xml
-
Ensure Your Posts Are Set to Index: Check that your posts are set to index in Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta.
- Flush the Cache: Increase the value of Links Per Sitemap by one in Rank Math SEO → Sitemap Settings, then save changes. Also, go to Settings → Permalinks and click Save Changes.
3. Add the Correct Version of Your Sitemap to Google Search Console
Make sure you have added the correct URL variation of your site in Google Search Console. You can check this in your WordPress dashboard under Settings → General.
If you continue to experience issues, please reply to this ticket with your site URL so we can assist you further. Thank you for raising this concern, and we’re here to help!

KamranHello,
Thank you for your query and we are so sorry about the trouble this must have caused.
We checked your website’s sitemap, and its not indeed working.
Please follow the steps below:

KamranHello,
I checked your sitemap and it seems to be loading just fine on my browser.
I went ahead and check all the variations of your sitemap and all 4 of them are all returned 200 which is incorrect. Please refer to my screenshot here:
Only one of the 4 variations should show a 200 status code. Three (3) of the sitemaps should show 301.
Please follow the steps in this link:
https://rankmath.com/kb/couldnt-fetch-error-google-search-console/#5-check-for-the-correct-version-of-the-sitemap and redirect to the correct version. Then, please ensure that your sitemap is not heavily cached as well. Please follow the steps below to address it:
1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
https://i.rankmath.com/pipRDp2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:
https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/Once done, resubmit the sitemap_index.xml in the Search Console and wait for Google to recrawl the sitemap.
Let us know how that goes. Looking forward to helping you.

KamranHello,
Ranking on Google depends on so much more than just your on-page optimization. You could search for your keyword or post title, or have the perfect article and still struggle to break the top 10 results when searching on Google, especially for highly competitive keywords.
Here are some of the factors Google considers when ranking your website.
1. Your website’s authority
2. Your content’s quality and how better it is than the other article currently ranking.
3. How competitive the keyword you are using is.
4. How many backlinks you have and if they are better than what the other websites ranking for that keyword have.
5. Your website’s crawlability.
6. Frequency of new content and content updates.
7. So much more that there is a dedicated blog post on it by Brian Dean 🙂 https://backlinko.com/google-ranking-factorsHere are a few resources you will find useful while devising an SEO strategy.
