Hi –
I need my sitemap to be findable with the typical sitemap structure:
WordPress’s default URL of a Sitemap is:
for example – https://rankmath.com/sitemap.xmlThe sitemap Rankmath is creating is not one that is searched and easily found:
my sitemap on this and other blogs that have rankmath installed: https://aquariumanswers.com/sitemap_index.xmlhow can this be fixed?
Also, I have multiple categories on this website. Why are they not showing up on the sitemap?
Sitemap URL: https://cleanhomehacks.com/category-sitemap.xmlThank you

Hello,
Thanks for contacting us.
Sorry to disappoint you but the URL of the sitemaps cannot be changed. With that being said, as sitemaps are mostly used by search engine bots to crawl through your website, bots can easily find your sitemap as the link to the sitemap is added in the Google Search Console account and your robots.txt file.
The URL structure used by Rank Math for sitemaps is a very common one and is also used by other SEO plugins like Yoast.
I visited your website and found that
your-domain.com/sitemap.xml
is already redirecting toyour-domain.com/sitemap_index.xml
. So if in case a user or bot tries to find the sitemap on the URLsitemap.xml
, they would be able to find your sitemap. Please have a look at this screencast for a quick reference:
https://i.rankmath.com/hROQScIf this auto-redirect is not happening in a website, then a simple redirect can be created for the above redirection. Here’s a screenshot for the redirect that can be created: https://i.rankmath.com/9jJPw5
Also, I have multiple categories on this website. Why are they not showing up on the sitemap?
Could you confirm if you have enabled the Category Sitemaps from your WordPress admin area > Rank Math > Sitemap Settings > Taxonomies: > Categories?
If yes, then please follow these steps to fix the issue:
1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
https://i.rankmath.com/pipRDp2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:
https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/3. Clear your website & browser’s cache.
Please let us know how that goes.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I completed the steps laid out; however, I do not have the option to change the links per sitemap to 201 – this is not on the page as in the video.
Not only are my categories not showing up on the sitemap, but when I click into them the result is 0. There are multiple pages and posts on this site.
Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
In order to see the “Links Per Sitemap“, First you must turn on the advanced mode.
Navigate to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Dashboard. In the top-right corner click on Advanced Mode as shown below:
Then try to flush the sitemap cache. and do let us know how that goes.
Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.
Hi I was able to do this and cleared the cache several times and the sitemap is still showing no categories and 0 posts and 0 pages.
Thank youHello,
Thank you for your reply.
We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/
You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.
Hello,
I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?
Thank you.
Hello,
Thank you for that information.
I’ve checked your site, and it seems that all your posts and pages are set to
noindex
. Please note that a URL needs to be set to index for it to be included in the sitemap. Here’s a link for your reference:
https://rankmath.com/kb/url-not-in-sitemap/#num-1-the-page-is-set-as-noindexI have set your about page as an example, and it is already showing in your /page-sitemap.xml
Please set them to index individually upon editing the page > Rank Math SEO Meta box > Advanced Tab
I hope that helps.
Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us anytime if you need further assistance with anything else.
oh my goodness …. I don’t know how that would have been missed I have been building websites for 8 years! Shame on me!! :0
Going to check and make changes now! Also upgrading to Rank math pro 🙂I’m curious … would this have anything specific to do with google ranking – I only ask because my Domain Rating on this site is 20 which is good for a site I haven’t touched in a year and I am just coming back to it.
Does this have to be changed individually on every post and page or is there a setting in Rank Math I can switch them to on for these posts and also for future posts?
Thank you
Hello,
Please kindly check if
noindex
in checked under WP Dashboard > Rank Math > Global Meta. Suppose it’s already set toindex
. In that case, you have to set them to index individually upon editing the page > Rank Math SEO Meta box > Advanced Tab because bulk editing is currently not available in the Free version of the plugin.Learn more about bulk feature here:
