Site Title not showing in search results

    Hi guys,

I can’t work out what is causing this, but on a number of sites that we’ve built recently, the site name isn’t showing in search results – it just shows the domain name. I assumed this was the site name set in the WordPress settings, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Where do I need to set this?

On an older site, this isn’t an issue – the site name shows correctly in the search results. However, I do need to update this, so I need to know where it is set.

    Thank you!

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the site title not showing in search results. To ensure that Google displays your site name instead of just the domain name, you need to set the site name in several key locations. Here’s how you can do it:

    1. Set Your Site Name in WordPress Settings

    • Go to WordPress DashboardSettings.
    • Enter your site name in the Site Title field and a description in the Tagline field.
    • Scroll down and click Save Changes.

Enter a site name in Site Title field

    2. Set Your Homepage H1 Header Tag

    • If your homepage is set to display a static page, go to WordPress DashboardPages.
    • Hover over the page labeled “Front Page” and click Edit.
    • Enter your site name as the page title and click Update.

    3. Set Your Homepage Meta Title

    • If you have Rank Math, you can set your homepage meta title by going to Rank Math SEOTitles & MetaHomepage. Make sure your site name is included in the meta title.

    4. Add a Site Name to Your Open Graph Metadata

    • Rank Math automatically adds Open Graph metadata to your homepage, which helps search engines understand your content better. Ensure this is correctly set up in Rank Math SEO settings.

After making these changes, it may take some time for Google to crawl your site again and update the search results. You can also follow best practices to inform Google of the updates.

If you continue to experience issues, please reply to this ticket with the specific URLs of the sites you’re having trouble with, and a human agent will assist you further.

Thank you for raising this concern!

Why Google Displays URL Instead of Site Name in SERP? » Rank Math

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Please note that there are various sources that Google uses to define your site name on SERPs including:

    • og:site_name meta tag
    • WebSite structured data
    • Content in title elements
    • Heading elements

Among them, Rank Math automatically includes the og:site_name meta tag and the WebSite Schema on your website, and the rest you’ll have to include manually. You can also check the Google documentation on site-name: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/site-names

However, as is mentioned in the documentation, this process is automated by the algorithm and even though it takes into account the information on the website, it is still not guaranteed that your site name will come up correctly in Google SERPs since it’s solely decided by Google what they found relevant and user-friendly and which one they want to show.

Hope this helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.
