You should remove any submitted sitemaps in your Google Search Console as you need to submit your main sitemap index only /sitemap_index.xml.
To remove the sitemap, you may need to click the three-dotted button at the upper right corner of the sitemap section on your Google Search Console account (for wp-sitemap.xml)
