Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math support and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
However, note that if you’re submitting a sitemap URL in URL Inspection Tool, then you shouldn’t be worried about the “No: “noindex” detected in the HTTP header “X-Robots-Tag” error, as it’s completely fine and absolutely normal to have
noindex
tag on your sitemap URLs. Because by default, sitemap URLs are set to noindex as it is not meant to be indexed and appear in the search results. The sitemap should only be submitted in the sitemaps sections in the Search Console.
The reason is that we don’t want Google to index the sitemap itself, we only want them to index the pages and posts that are listed on the sitemap. The sitemap is just a way to tell Google what pages and posts you have on your website, not a page that you want to show up in search results.
Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.
Thank you.
Hello, thank you again for your support.
Although the sitemap is valid and accessibl, Google Search Console is still unable to read it correctly. It shows the type as “Unknown” and does not detect the URLs inside.
I have already:
Verified that the sitemap is valid using XML Sitemap Validator (no errors or warnings)
Disabled LiteSpeed Cache and cleared all cache
Checked that the robots.txt file is correct and does not block access
Ensured my site uses HTTPS and is reachable
Updated permalinks from “category/postname” to “postname” only
Despite all this, Google Search Console still shows the sitemap as unreadable.
Could you please check if there’s any remaining server-level setting, firewall, or configuration that could be preventing Googlebot from reading the sitemap correctly?
Any help to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much!
Hello,
Please share your sitemap URL so we can validate it as well.
Meanwhile, try removing all your submitted sitemaps and resubmit your main sitemap only /sitemap_index.xml
Once done, give Google some time to recrawl your sitemap and wait for the “Last read” column to be updated.
Looking forward to helping you.
Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
This is my sitemap URL:
https://zenaroms.com/sitemap_index.xmlI’ve now removed all previously submitted sitemaps from Google Search Console and resubmitted only the main sitemap.
I will wait for Google to recrawl it and update the “Last read” status.
Thank you very much for your help, I’ll keep you updated.
Hello,
We’ve checked your sitemaps, and they are already validating fine.
Let us know the results when Google recrawls your sitemap.
Looking forward to helping you.
Hello, good morning,
Thank you very much for your previous support.
After following your instructions — I removed all previously submitted sitemaps and resubmitted only the main sitemap (https://zenaroms.com/sitemap_index.xml) — but unfortunately, Google Search Console still shows the status “Couldn’t fetch” and the sitemap cannot be read.
I’ve also confirmed that the sitemap is accessible from the browser and validates correctly in external sitemap validators, but Google still seems unable to fetch it.
Could you please help me check if there might be another cause or setting that could be affecting this?
Thanks a lot for your assistance, I appreciate your time.
Hello,
Please click the affected sitemap in the GSC Sitemap section and take a full screnshot of the full report so we can know what made Google say the sitemap is not reachable.
You may use this tool to share screenshots with us: https://imgur.com/upload/
Looking forward to helping you.
Hello,
I’m attaching the full screenshot of the sitemap report from Google Search Console as you requested.

Hello,
We checked your sitemap, and we can see Googlebot can access it without any issues:
In this case, please try to remove all the submitted sitemaps again from your Google Search Console and resubmit
/?sitemap=1
and see if that works for you.For more details, you can check this URL: https://rankmath.com/kb/couldnt-fetch-error-google-search-console/#rename-the-sitemap
Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.
Thank you.
