If I understand correctly you are referring to media files stored on your server, right? Apologies if I’m mistaken.
You can do the same thing with your media files. It depends on your personal preference which pages and media you want users to search and find on Google. According to that, you can easily adjust your settings using Rank Math. For example, You may simply add a Disallow declaration to your robots.txt if you don’t want Google to crawl any of your pdf files: Disallow: *.pdf

Thank you for the screenshot of the instant indexing API settings. It helped understand the problem.
If media is part of your main content for example on a graphic designer or photographer website, then the media should be checked. If media is not your main content it is better to leave it unchecked.
Please note, the media referred to in the instant indexing settings is attachment pages. Please read our knowledgebase article on attachment pages to better understand what they are.
Google has a crawl budget for every website, so it is best to set the most important content to be crawled first. Media posts contain very little written information so they are usually less important.
