Separate XML sitemaps per language with WPML and language directories

    Dear Rank Math team,
I’m using your SEO plugin in combination with WPML on a multilingual website, where each language version is served through directories (e.g. /it/, /en/).

I’ve noticed that Rank Math currently generates a single unified sitemap including all languages, but no longer allows the creation of separate XML sitemaps per language—a feature that used to be available via the “Include all languages” option.

For SEO and Search Console purposes, it would be extremely useful to have a dedicated sitemap for each language, while continuing to use directory-based URLs and without switching to subdomains or separate domains.

Could you kindly let me know:

Is there currently a way to achieve this sitemap structure within Rank Math?

Is the “Include all languages” feature planned to return, or is there an alternative?

Do you recommend any official workaround for this scenario?

Thank you in advance for your time and for the excellent work on your plugin.

    Best regards,

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the sitemap structure in Rank Math when using it alongside WPML. Thank you for raising this concern.

Currently, Rank Math does not support generating separate XML sitemaps for each language when using WPML with directory-based URLs. The plugin automatically creates a unified sitemap that includes all languages, which is designed to simplify the process for users.

As for the "Include all languages" feature, there hasn’t been any official announcement regarding its return or an alternative method to achieve separate sitemaps per language at this time. However, we recommend checking our documentation and updates regularly, as features may evolve based on user feedback.

For your specific scenario, while there isn’t an official workaround available, you might consider manually creating separate sitemaps for each language and submitting them to Google Search Console. This would involve generating individual sitemaps for each language version of your content and ensuring they are accessible via their respective URLs.
