SEO Meta Description

    Hi,

Wow, this is really a basic question – I feel a bit lost so I picked the above page as an example of what is happening. I apologize, but I don’t do SEO everyday – so I feel like I’m a bit of a novice about all of it. I did look through the other tickets using your search function, but am having trouble bridging a gap between theory and practice. And all things considered, the little formal SEO I have done on the site, and Serped us well. (ouch – pardon the pun)

On all my pages, I keep getting: “Focus keyword not found in SEO meta description.

Question 1: I can’t find WHERE my SEO Meta Description is even located. And when I alter the “Snippet Description” – it does not check off the box. So I am confused.

Question 2: I would like to possibly add the term bar feeders to my site title, on the home page. No idea where to add to my existing site title. Or does that need to be done from my theme options?

Question 3: I used an external sitemap generator. Do you find your to be a better option? Am I committed to RankMaths site generator once I start using RankMath? Would I need to resubmit my sitemap if I choose to use yours?

I really like the idea of Rank Math, and think it can only get better. While not a huge fan of Yoast, in the instance of my questions above, Yoast presents a clear path. I just was not comfortable with Yoast as I felt if I uninstalled it – I would lose everything.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

Question 1: I can’t find WHERE my SEO Meta Description is even located. And when I alter the β€œSnippet Description” – it does not check off the box. So I am confused.
The snippet description is the same as the meta description. This is the excerpt that will be displayed under the post/page title on the SERP. Rank Math will currently check for an exact match of the focus keyword on the meta description and thus this should not cause any worry if you have already added the keyword in a different order and the score does not go green. Search engines will be able to detect the keyword.

Question 2: I would like to possibly add the term bar feeders to my site title, on the home page. No idea where to add to my existing site title. Or does that need to be done from my theme options?
You can add this text on the SEO title within the Rank Math metabox when editing the page. Here is an example of this location:

Question 3: I used an external sitemap generator. Do you find your to be a better option? Am I committed to RankMaths site generator once I start using RankMath? Would I need to resubmit my sitemap if I choose to use yours?
No you are not committed to the Rank Math sitemap module, you can continue to use your third party solution. You will also need to resubmit the sitemap if your current one is not located in https://domain.com/sitemap_index.xml

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

Great! Thanks for the quick reply. I am really busy, so I am slower to respond…

    I understand now with questions 1 & 2.

Regarding question #3 – just for clarification:

1 – I added the Rankmath plugin to my site
2 – I plan on keeping my sitemap.xml file untouched and do not plan on using the rankmath-generated “sitemap_index.xml” ( i will probably delete it)

Do I still need to resubmit sitemap.xml to search console?

    I’m confused.

    Thank you very much.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

No you will not need to resubmit it if it is still accessible on this path https://domain.com/sitemap.xml.
You will only need to disable the Rank Math sitemap module via Rank Math > Dashboard.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Thanks Michael!

Regarding question #2 above… I am now catching on – albeit slowly – to the way Rank MAth does things, thanks to you explanation.

What if I want TEXT in the site title that does not coincide with any of the pre-set choices? Is that what the custom description is for? If so – where exactly to I create and store the custom description if that is indeed what I need?

    Let me know – thanks!

Oops! See image. I have gotten myself in a predicament. My keyword was too long, now I can’t reach end to delete it. Tried multiple browsers to fix it. Stuck.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

1). You can enter a custom title or description by clicking on the title field and typing the text that you would like to appear. This would then effectively override the global settings.

2). Please double click on the long focus keyword and then use the DELETE key on your keyboard to delete the keyword.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.
