Hi, so after reverting back to yoast, my descriptions are returning, but I see that I can no longer edit the SEO parts within Elemontor, so I need to go back to Rankmath again. Will you be able to help to ensure the listings works correctly?

In particular, for the custom posts for Listings, you will see that I set the SEO titles and descriptions myself and it is those SEO titles and descriptions that I want to show in the search results please.

    Hi Adam,

Do you mind sharing a few examples of how you setup something and how it working instead?

We would like some URLs as well instead of having to hunt down the pages and guess which ones are having an issue.

    Good morning Todd,

If you run site:www.herdwickcottages.co.uk/listings/ you’ll see that some of the results are missing the descriptions. Originally none had descriptions but when I reverted back to yoast, the started to return, but not all.

I’m worried that now I’m back on Rankmath, they will all lose their descriptions again.

    Hi Adam,

    I checked this listing:
    view-source:https://www.herdwickcottages.co.uk/listings/the-old-cop-shop-glenridding-northern-lakes/

This is the meta description I see:
    null

Sleeps 4 - Family-friendly terraced cottage, just a short stroll from Glenridding, Patterdale and Ullswater Lake. Lots of activities locally & dog-friendly.

Is that not the description you have set?

Hi Tom,yes, that is correct, all the listings have descriptions, which are correct, nevertheless they are not showing in the search result.

Prior to, temporarily, moving back to Yoast, none of the pages, posts or listings, in the search results, displayed a description, only the title.

If you run the site: search you’ll see that some still do not display the description, even though the description is set.

That’s all I want is to be sure that the search description shows in the search results.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

All the posts that lack a meta description look like they might have not been indexed. Could you please check for any coverage errors on your Google search console?

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hi Adam,

    1. First of all, I am assuming that you have already changed the SEO Meta Title and Meta Description with the help of Rank Math:
Add a Meta Description in Classic Editor: https://i.rankmath.com/dhECkg
Add title and description in Gutenberg: https://i.rankmath.com/ZO21Cd

    2. Then, ensure that this is the setting in the Schema tab if Rich Snippets are enabled on your website:
    https://i.rankmath.com/pG0pcS

To reiterate, the Schema title must show %seo_title% and the description should show %seo_description% – this will ensure your SEO title and SEO Description that you set up via Rank Math can also be used for your schema details:

    3. The next step is to check if your title/description is properly set up in the page source:
    https://i.rankmath.com/HwXR1o

You can use this tool for the same as well: https://www.heymeta.com/

    4. If it matches your settings, then you must check if Google has seen the changes already or not.

For that, please check when the Google cache was updated for that page:
    a. https://i.rankmath.com/9q6X0H
    b. https://i.rankmath.com/R8N0Uh

If the cache date is from before adding the new meta description, then you just have to wait for Google to re-crawl and re-index the page with the new info. If the date is after you made the changes,

Do note that if everything’s fine and Google still decides to show a different meta title/description for your search keyword, there is nothing you can do as Google sometimes ignores the custom meta info altogether and show something from the page’s content that matches the search intent better.

The best you can do is optimize your meta tags to try and match the intent of the search/keyword.
