The option seems to work fine from my end. Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.
To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:

Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.
Please let us know if you find the culprit else we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

I have checked and after disabling the plugin “iThemes Security Pro”, everything is working fine. You should check if there is some setting (like something related to admin-ajax.php or some blocked request) on that plugin blocking Rank Math. You could also ask their support if you have questions about what setting could be causing it.

I have completly removed Ithemes plugin and reinstalled rankmath and it still does not work…what can we try

Hello,
In this new site you sent us, you had another issue. The plugin “Theme Support” was generating some issues (you can see them in the Dev Console). After disabling it, Rank Math was working without any issues. You should ask the dev of that plugin to check for potential issues in the javascript, since it was failing on every screen (not only in the post editor).
