Schema Overly Complicated

I’ve been using Rankmath primarily to add basic metadata, but have since started paying closer attention to Schema and I am considering upgrading to the paid version. However, after taking a course on schema and checking my code in Google’s Structured Data tool, it seems that Rankmath has made my schema overly complicating and messy. My site content is pretty simple, just blog articles, no products or anything fancy yet. I showed the code to an SEO and they agreed, it was overly complex and much of it was unessecary. Am I doing something wrong? Can I change settings on Rankmath, or make changes manually?

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Our plugin automatically generates some Schema markup on your website based on the settings you have in Rank Math. For example, we generate a WebSite Schema without you needing to do anything.

This is done automatically to help generate compliant markup on your website and help your pages and posts.

We tested the page you just mentioned and it’s passing the Rich Results Test just fine, so there’s really no issue with it.

Check the test results in the sensitive data section.

If you want to take ownership of this code and change it as you see fit you’ll need to use the following filter to extend the JSON+LD code: https://rankmath.com/kb/filters-hooks-api-developer/#extend-json-ld-data

Hope this helps clarify your doubts.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.
