    RankMath Google Result

How do I set the Google result to show the site title instead of the site url in the search result?

I have been through all the settings and I’ve asked ChatGPT but I am unable to find a setting or solution to change it.

I’ve compared the Google rich test results but I can’t see anything that would make a difference.

I’ve noticed this will all my client sites that use RankMath it shows the url, but all the client sites that use Yoast show the site title.

    Please assist.

    Thank you

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with your Google search results displaying the URL instead of the site title. Thank you for providing the screenshots; they help us understand your concern better.

To ensure that Google displays your site title in the search results, you can follow these steps:

    1. Add a Site Name to Your Website Structured Data

Make sure you have added a site name to your structured data. If you have Rank Math, navigate to WordPress Dashboard → Rank Math SEO and enable the Schema module.

    Enable Schema in Rank Math

    2. Set Your Site Name in the Settings

Go to WordPress Dashboard → Settings and enter your site name in the Site Title field. Also, ensure that you have a proper description in the Tagline field.

Enter a site name in Site Title field

After making these changes, scroll down and click Save Changes.

    3. Set Your Homepage Meta Title

Ensure that your homepage has a meta title set correctly. You can do this by going to Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta → Homepage and entering your desired title.

    4. Check Your Open Graph Metadata

Rank Math automatically adds Open Graph metadata to your homepage, which helps social media apps and search engines understand your content better. Ensure that this is set up correctly as well.

    5. Wait for Google to Re-crawl Your Site

After making these changes, it may take some time for Google to re-crawl your site and update the search results. You can also submit your sitemap through Google Search Console to expedite this process.

If you’ve followed these steps and are still experiencing issues, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further.

Thank you for your patience, and we hope this helps resolve your issue!

Why Google Displays URL Instead of Site Name in SERP? » Rank Math

    Hello,

Please note that there are various sources that Google uses to define your site name on SERPs including:

    • og:site_name meta tag
    • WebSite structured data
    • Content in title elements
    • Heading elements

Among them, Rank Math automatically includes the og:site_name meta tag and the WebSite Schema on your website, and the rest you’ll have to include manually. You can also check the Google documentation on site-name: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/site-names

However, as is mentioned in the documentation, this process is automated by the algorithm and even though it takes into account the information on the website, it is still not guaranteed that your site name will come up correctly in Google SERPs since it’s solely decided by Google what they found relevant and user-friendly and which one they want to show.

For more details, you can check this URL: https://rankmath.com/kb/display-site-name-in-search-results/

Hope this helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you.
