    Hello,

    I received a notification about robots.txt from google so when I try to solve it then I saw that my .htaccess and robots.txt folder is not writable.

    i tried everything such as changing the name but when I search the robots.txt folder in Cpanel first of all the name is changed class-robots.txt instead of robots.txt the second thing is when I changed the name of the folder to Old-robots.txt the option disappear from the rank math .

    i am afraid to do changes to any of my folders because the website is getting traffic and i don’t want to do something which can cause any issue to the website.

    please help me in this situation.

    Note: I used itheme security plugin before that’s why my all permission was changed but now its writable and also i am not using that plugin. The current plugin which I am using for security is wordfence.

    Hello,

    Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

    The robots.txt that we detect is located on your website’s root directory and not within Rank Math’s files. The root directory is where you’ll find the folders wp-admin, wp-content, etc.

    If you have a static robots.txt file in your website’s root directory, Rank Math would not be able to generate it since we create it virtually. Here’s a link for more information:

    For the error robots.txt file is not writable, please check your wp-config.php file for this line and set it to false:

    define ('DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT', true);

    If it’s not there, please add this line in that file:

    define ('DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT', false);

    Thanks, Mate,

    Really appreciated now robots.txt is writable and the error is gone also .htaccess error is gone.

    Can I now click on validate issue in the google search console because my error is solved and yeah please see the attachment?

    my .htaccess error is gone and i have seen the confirmation about .htaccess file is updated.

    My question is do i have to do anything else or its done and my .htaccess is updated?

    Hello,

    Yes, please try validating the error on your Google Search Console account and give Google some time to validate it.

    If the issue still persists, could you please share your website URL to check and verify? You can add it in the sensitive data section

    For your .htaccess file, since you have mentioned that it is already fixed, there’s no need to update it.
