One of the common reasons for this issue is that a physical robots.txt file is present in the root folder of your website. You can remove this file via FTP and then try to edit the robots.txt file using Rank Math.

The image clearly shows that it is RankMath robots.txt. The earlier robots.txt was removed then RankMath created its own.

Rank Math’s robots.txt is created virtually, so you won’t be able to see it in your website’s file manager.
If you wanted to edit your robots.txt through Rank Math > General Settings, please delete or at least rename the static robots.txt file in your website directory.
