Robots.txt and .htaccess not writable

    Hello,

    robots.txt file is not writable

    .htaccess file is not writable

    Recently just moved from Yoast to Rankmath and got stuck when encountered this message in GENERAL SETTNGS area whilst doing a walkthrough setup.

    I am not a techy person and I don’t know what this means and I have no idea if its ok to leave it as it is.

    Both of this message are shaded with a red color and I have contacted my Hosting provider and they said that both robots.txt file and .htaccess files are both writable and there is no problem at their end.

    Is this ok?

    Any advice will be much appreciated.

    Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

    Probably you are using some security plugin that makes those files as not writable.

    robots.txt and .htaccess files are two really important files on a website and having changes on them can cause damages in your sites if not done properly.

    So usually security plugins (and even some hosts) make those files not writable from WordPress so a hacker or even a plugin can’t change them and cause issues.

    If you are not going to modify those files, it is fine to have them as not writable, it is an extra security measure.
