RM Locations when I already have an existing Locations post type?

Hello! On our site we have 48 location pages, and they were created using a custom post type (wordpress site) called Locations. The pages are already built, showing the info we want, etc. The URLs all have authority and good backlinks… don’t want to change any of that.

My question is – how do I use RM Locations with this? It is my understanding that I will be creating each location, with RM locations. But they already exist… So I am a bit confused!

The whole point is to be able to get Local Business schema on each location. How could I do this? Will I need to go manually do them, and not use RM Locations? If so that is okay… but it would be much easier to do it at scale!

I already have a custom field on each page that takes Address, I could easily pull that for Schema (done with ACF Pro)… Just confused to what the best approach is.

    Thanks!

  • Hello,

We apologize for the confusion regarding the use of RM Locations alongside your existing custom post type for locations. Thank you for raising this concern.

Since you already have 48 location pages created with a custom post type called Locations, you can still utilize Rank Math’s RM Locations feature to add Local Business schema without losing your existing URLs and backlinks. Here’s how you can approach this:

    1. Enable Multiple Locations: First, ensure that you have enabled the Use Multiple Locations option in the Rank Math settings. This will create the RM Locations custom post type.

    2. Create New RM Locations: You will need to create new entries in the RM Locations for each of your existing locations. However, you can keep the existing URLs intact by ensuring that the new RM Locations do not conflict with your current URLs. You can do this by setting a different slug for the RM Locations or by using a different naming convention.

    3. Add Local Business Schema: For each RM Location, you can use the Schema Generator in Rank Math to add Local Business schema. This will allow you to pull in the address and other relevant information from your existing custom fields (like those created with ACF Pro).

    4. Manual vs. Automated: Unfortunately, there is no bulk import feature for RM Locations at this time, so you will need to create each location manually. However, since you already have the address stored in custom fields, it should make it easier to input the necessary information into the schema for each location.

    5. Considerations: If you prefer not to create new RM Locations and want to keep everything as is, you can manually add Local Business schema directly to your existing location pages using the Schema Generator without switching to RM Locations. This might be a more straightforward approach if you’re concerned about maintaining your current setup.

Unsure why my post is tagged “Rank Math Free” – I do have the paid version, and access to all features. If that makes a difference.

    Thanks!
