It appears the issue is related to the Woocommerce module; when it is disabled the issue doesn’t continue.

It looks like the .htaccess file has some custom enhancements and this could be the cause. We tried with only the default Core theme and RankMath active and the issue still persisted ( troubleshooting mode ), even though we couldn’t reproduce this on our dev setups.
Also on the site, there’s a snippet named redirect probleem, that when disabled,
the URL; https://locoport.ee/apple/ redirects to https://locoport.ee/apple-imac-24-4-5k-retina-apple-m3-8c-cpu-10c-gpu-8gb-512gb-ssd-blue-int-apple/
This would mean there’s a deeper source of the issue. Could you please reach out to your host and see if they could restore the .htaccess file to the defaults and if the issue persists we will take another look.

I was told 2 things:
– there are no rules that would prevent categories from working (as expected, nothing has been changed on our side anywhere at all)
– change old .htaccess to .htaccess-old and reset .htaccess from WP

There’s a code snippet that fixes an already underlying redirection issue at :https://locoport.ee/wp-admin/admin.php?page=edit-snippet&id=13
When this snippet is disabled, the category redirects to a product page instead of the 404 response.
This underlying issue could also be the one affecting the categories pages, and we will need to get to the bottom to it.
Could you please create a staging site and share the admin logins to that instead. That way, we can edit the .htaccess file without worry of interfering with the normal site operations.

There are lots of debugging errors though. Not sure if you are able to get in? One option would be that you go into the staging site from the regular site’s admin.

I’m unable to access the admin side of the staging site due to these debugging errors. You could go to the regular website, log in with my link, then WP Staging -> Staging Sites-> Action and “Open” to open it.
I don’t know what else to do. I’m not a developer. I need people to fix their stuff.
I guess I am not able to use Rankmath ever again. It breaks absolutely every category on the website now.

The WP Staging -> Staging Sites-> Action and “Open” .... still opens the login form, but we have disabled the debug error output on the page. You could use the username password combination to login and create an admin login link, or share the admin username and password and we will continue from there.
Just noticing this, for the FTP details, the FTP username is also required.
