Redundant Canonical - Support

Hi guys,
when I activate the AMP plugin, google will give me an error, that there are two canonicals in the page. And there are, I have checke 😉
When I deactivate the plugin, there will be only one again.
I am using AmpforWP for the AMP-pages.
Do you have any idea what to do? Basically, the AMP-Plugin should only generate the metas and NOT another canonical link…

I have just tested the AMP for WP plugin with the Rank Math module but I cannot reproduce the double canonical problem. Could you please check if this is related to your current theme by temporarily switching to one of the stock WP themes?

Hi Michael,
haven’t been able to test another theme yet, but I experimentally switched on the amp plugin and copied the part of the sourcecode with the redundant canonical in it. Here it is – maybe you already find the problem there…

Thanks for the response.

It looks like the meta description is duplicated as well which furthers my suspicion that this is related to a conflict on your end.
You do not have to manually disable plugins and your theme, please follow the instructions here: https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Ok. I will try that step by step. But I will have to keep the ampforWP and the amp layout Plugins enabled, because it only concerns the amp Version.
I still have Yoast installed but disabled. This couldn’t be the cause of the Problem, right?

I do not think that this is related to the presence of Yoast but you can go ahead and flush your site cache to check if this will have an effect on the issue.
