Redirections on Multilingual Site

    Hi guys,

me again… I hope you are all safe in these hard times of coronavirus.

Probably you still remember me from the sitemap issues on my multilingual site some weeks ago. Well, here goes my other problem. I would need to activate the Redirection tool. But unfortunately, I cannot – it crashes my multilingual site. As soon as activated, the starting page is available only in the first language (German), but it does not appear in English and Spanish. Instead, in those languages visitors are redirected to the first content page, which at the moment is called “Mexico”.

Do you have any ideas for me how to get that right? At the moment of submitting this ticket, for obvious reasons, Redirection is turned off, but I would need to use it.

Thanks so much in advance for your thoughts.
    Stay safe & Kind regards

We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Hi Karin,

I enabled Redirections temporarily and saw quite a few redirects added there that might be the reason you are seeing these issues.

I have deactivated the redirects and then disable the Redirection module once again in case something didn’t work as you wanted.

So, just enable the module once again and your translated pages should work fine without getting redirected.

If it doesn’t work, we would love to take another look but we will also need a few example URLs from you where we can see this issue.

    Hi Todd,

thank you sooooo much! 🙂 I just reactivated RankMath Redirection and all works fine. I think I also understood what the problem was… Before I found RankMath, some months ago I realized that my permalinks were terrible, as WP always used the full title of every post, and even those had lots of potential for improvement – I was just new in WP and SEO. Therefore, I installed another Redirection plugin in order to adjust those strange URLs. The plug in was supposed to automatically create redirections when changing the permalinks. After reviewing the list of redirections, I saw that the crash of the startpage in the 2nd and 3rd language was also on the list. Those redirections must have been created autoatically by the old tool, and I never found out – after deactivating the old plug in, I thought all those old automated redirections were gone. Sorry for my stupid newbie mistake… and txs for saving my site and teaching me.

    Best regards, and stay safe.
