Redirections change Page

    Hi dear team,

I think there is a bug in my version of RankMath. When I use a redirection the page somehow changes to the one it’s directed to. Which means: Suddently they are identical. I don’t think this should happen. Could you please tell me how I can fix this?

Also, if I need to reinstall RankMath – will all my counter marks disappear? (I’ve got a German plug-in called Prosodia which counts the visitors on my site using “counter marks”.)

    Thank you and kind regards,
    Anke

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

Could you please share the URLs you are redirecting so we can check? Also, please share the redirect you have created in Rank Math. If you wanted to share screenshots, you can upload them using this tool and add the link here.

On the other hand, reinstalling Rank Math should not affect any of your data as they are stored in your database.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hi Reinelle,

Thank you for your quick answer.

    Here are two examples:

    Hello,

Can you please explain in detail what you meant by “The content on these pages disappeared”?

Please enable our redirection to debug feature to check if there are another redirection rule that might be causing the unexpected redirection: https://rankmath.com/kb/solving-redirection-issues-using-rank-math-seo/#redirection-debug

If the issue persists, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress login in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.

    Hi Jeremy,

Thanks so much for your reply.

By “the content disappeared” I mean: It got substituted by the content from the page it’s directed to.

I would like to let you guys fix the problem and I installed the plugin you suggested. What email address can I use?

    Thanks and kind regards,
    Anke

I sent you the temporary login, see sensitive data. Thank you.

    Hello,

The content wasn’t substituted but rather, the page URL has been changed hence, your browser requested new content based on the destination URL you have created in our plugin’s redirection tool. Please refer to my screenshot in the sensitive data section.

Please head over to your WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Redirections and remove that redirection rule if this is not an intended behavior for that page.

As for the issue with the page das-k-projekt-2 redirecting to das-k-projekt-warteliste, the redirection wasn’t created by Rank Math so I suggest checking this one in your .htaccess if there are rules there that created this redirection.

Looking forward to helping you with this one.

    Hi Jeremy,

Thank you for your reply. Could you please add your screenshot (I think you forgot, at least I can’t see it)? It would be very helpful to me.

    Thanks and kind regards,
    Anke

    Hello,

Apologies if I forgot to insert the screenshot. Kindly check again in the sensitive data section.

You should see that there is a redirection rule that redirects the page anmeldung-schreibroutine-check to der-schreib-code-warteliste which is why you see the content from der-schreib-code-warteliste.

    Hope the helps.

    Thank you.

    Hi Jeremy,

    Thank you.

I think there is a misunderstanding. Of course I know that there is a redirection.

My problem is: I cannot see and therefore work on the the original content (e.g. the original content on anmeldung-schreibroutine-check). Even when I’m logged in I can’t access it and I only see the content from der-schreib-code-warteliste on both pages.

I really don’t know what I’m missing here. Has the original disappeared? Why can’t I see it?

    Hello,

I went ahead and looked for that original URL and here’s the content editor of that page [please see sensitive data section].

Can you please confirm if this is the page you are searching for?

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Hi Jeremy,

the page you mention has been overwritten (at least I think so). I can’t see its original content any more.

Is it actually possible that a redirection overwrites a page?

I’m considering to take out the redirects from RankMath and use the other plugin for redirections. Does this make sense?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

No, Rank Math doesn’t modify or change the actual content of the page. Our redirections will only take a certain URL to a different one and we don’t modify the content.

Kindly try disabling our redirection module temporarily to test it. Please head over to your WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Dashboard > Modules and disable the Redirections module:

    module

After that, check if this resolves the issue you are having.

If it resolves the issue, do let us know and we will conduct further investigation.

Looking forward to helping you with this one.

    Hi Jeremy,

    Thank you.

OK, I tested and tested and I identified the following problem:

If a redirection is active, I cannot access the content of the page. It always shows the content its directed to. Once I deactivate the redirection, I can access the content.

I’ve tested it with a different redirection plugin and the same thing happens.

So I think it’s not a problem caused by RankMath and I’ll have to search somewhere else (maybe in Divi?).

    Thank you for your time.
    Kind regards,
    Anke

P.S.: In case you have a suggestion I’d be happy to know about it 🙂

    Hello,

This may also be caused by another plugin on your website. To determine what plugin that is, please refer to this guide: https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Note that only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Hello,
