Hi,
I have set up redirects for old urls via RankMath. Some work and some don’t. Do you have any advice on how best to ensure that they work?
FYI, I have cleared cache and have Re-create Missing Database Tables.
Website is – https://sigma-hse.com/
Thank you

Hello,
I’m sorry to hear that you are facing issues with some of the redirects set up via Rank Math on your website. To ensure that your redirects work correctly, here are a few steps you can take:
-
Check for Cached Pages: Sometimes, redirects may not work on cached pages. Please navigate to the settings of your caching plugin and clear its cache. After clearing the cache, test the redirection again.
-
Perform a Self-Diagnosis: You can perform a self-diagnosis using Rank Math’s Debug Redirection Feature. This feature helps identify and troubleshoot redirection issues effectively.
-
Check Redirection Configuration: Ensure that the redirections are correctly configured in Rank Math. Double-check the old URLs and the corresponding new URLs to confirm they are set up accurately.
If after following these steps, the issue persists, please feel free to reply to this ticket. Our support staff will assist you further.
Thank you for reaching out and providing your website URL for reference.

Hello,
I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?
Thank you.
Hello,
The URL you have shared is redirecting to your homepage. Could you please confirm if that’s the destination URL?
Meanwhile, from the URL structure, it seems that it is a date archive page.
Rank Math has an option to redirect those to the homepage the Date Archive setting is disabled on your WordPress dashboard > Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Misc Pages:

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I wanted to 410 that link and have done within the redirections tab.
Just been to the Misc page and have turned on

In this case, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.

Hello,
As mentioned by my colleague, Rank Math redirects the date archives to the homepage if you have disabled the Date Archives in the Titles & Meta settings of our plugin. So, the redirects you have set will not take effect, as the URL will be redirected to the homepage.
To fix this issue and get a 410 redirect for the date archive URLs, you will have to enable the Date Archives option in WP Dashboard > Rank Math SEO > Titles & Meta > Misc Pages.
Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
So there is no way to turn these into a 410? I’m also guessing that if I were to turn this section on then i will end up with more date archives than originally?
There are 100s of other pages that are all facing the same issue, will this all be affected by a RankMath setting?
Hello,
>> I’m also guessing that if I were to turn this section on then i will end up with more date archives than originally?
No, you should not end up with more date archives. But if you enable the date archive, Rank Math will stop automatically redirecting your date archives – so if you want it redirected, you will have to do that manually. You can use Regex redirection to match and redirect all date archives.
>> There are 100s of other pages that are all facing the same issue, will this all be affected by a RankMath setting?
That’s impossible to know unless we see the URLs you’re referring to. The date archive setting will only affect your date archives, nothing else. But there’s a chance that other Rank Math settings are preventing other redirects. Rank Math system redirects (the redirects Rank Math creates from the options you enable in the Rank Math settings) will always take precedence over user-created redirects (the redirect you created via Rank Math > Redirections).
>> So there is no way to turn these into a 410?
Rank Math uses 310 for most Rank Math system redirects by default and if your goal is to get Google to delist those pages, the 310 status code will also achieve the same result.
We hope this helps clarify the issue. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.
