Redirection not working in Google Search Console

I have created a permanent 301 redirection for the following link: https://heronpondhideaway.com/?page_id=1052 and it has been there for some time. However, Google Search Console says that the redirection has failed when I tried to validate. I have confirmed there are no typos and the address listed and redirected to the new address are both correct.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the redirection not working in Google Search Console. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

    1. Check Redirect Configuration: Ensure that the 301 redirect is correctly set up in your Rank Math settings. You can do this by navigating to Rank Math SEO → Redirections in your WordPress admin dashboard.
      Rank Math Redirections Tab

    2. Validate Redirects: Use tools like Redirect Checker to see if the redirect is functioning as expected. This can help confirm whether the redirect is properly configured.

    3. Avoid Redirect Loops: Make sure there are no redirect loops occurring, which can cause Google to fail the validation. You can refer to our guide on fixing redirect loops.

    4. Use Canonical URLs: If applicable, specify a canonical URL for the page to help Google understand the preferred version of the page.

    5. Revalidate in Google Search Console: After making any necessary adjustments, go back to Google Search Console and try validating the redirect again.

If you continue to experience issues, please reply to this ticket with any additional details or include your site URL so that a human agent from our support team can assist you further. Thank you for raising this concern!

My site url is http://www.heronpondhideaway.com. Still having the issue after trying those things.

    Hello,

    The redirect is working properly.

Could you please share the report from your Google Search Console about the redirect?

You can upload screenshots using this tool and add the link here.

    Looking forward to helping you.

Yes, it is working properly but still showing up in Google Search Console as “failed”. Here is screenshot:

    Hello,

In this case, please clear your website and server’s cache, then revalidate the issue in your Google Search Console account and give Google some time to recrawl your site.

    validate

    Looking forward to helping you.

I have given Google time to re-validate and it still did not work. The failed redirects are both for the same page if that means anything. The others have not had a chance to validate as it hasn’t gotten past these two.

    Hello,

The issue here is that Google is still discovering that URL somewhere.

You can use the URL Inspection tool of your GSC account on the URL to check the referring page and figure out where Google is discovering it and remove it there:

    Looking forward to helping you.

You are going to have to be more specific. I do not understand how to do what you are asking above.
I spent two hours yesterday with Gemini AI trying to resolve this. They figured out that the “/” of my redirect link within RankMath keeps disappearing after its created. Before, I tested the redirection on wheregoes.com and was getting just a 200 Ok, not a 301. When I entered ^/book/?$ and set it to Regex, then the link on wheregoes.com became a proper 301. However, in testing on the live url on Google search console, I am still getting a fail. It gives a 200 OK. I cleared all cache on browser, website and server. I even paused the Cloudlfare DNS b/c Gemini thought that was the issue, but nothing has solved this. I’ve reached the end of what Gemini can suggest to help resolve this.

I have 7 properly set up pages that fail to redirect and now I have 23 new Not Found (404) errors. You have access to my site thorugh login. I have been dealing with issues literally since the day I installed this. You can see how many tickets I Have and even repeated tickets for the same issue. Someone needs to spend some actual time resolving this issue or I need to just delete this plug in all together because it’s been nothing but a headache and it doesn’t help my SEO at all.

    Hello,

We want to assure you that the redirection from https://heronpondhideaway.com/?page_id=1052 is working correctly, as it returns a proper 301 response and points to the intended URL you wish to index, which is working as you can see from the screenshot below:

This means the issue isn’t with the redirection itself, but rather with Google still discovering and indexing the original (source) URL.

In Google Search Console, when you check this URL using the URL Inspection Tool, please scroll down to the section titled “Referring page”. This will show you where Google is still finding the old URL. It’s likely still linked internally or externally, and removing or updating those links should help Google stop crawling it.

Regarding the 404 errors, could you please share a few examples of the affected URLs? Once we have those, we’ll take a close look and guide you on how to resolve or redirect them properly.

    Looking forward to helping you.
