Redirection for site migration

    Hi:

Have a question regarding URL redirection for site migration.

Eg. Scenario – I’m migrating my site that has 100 URLs from one platform to another and I cannot replicate the same URLs onto the migrated site, and out of the 100 URLs, I require only 10 and the other 90 are deleted permanently and are not required:

    1. Can I redirect the 10 URLs that I require in the ‘add redirection tab’ as a 301 redirect and point it to the new URLs?

    2. For the rest 90 that I don’t require, can I set it as a “410 content deleted” in the general settings redirection tab so that Google can process it accordingly and remove those URLs from the index. For context, these are deleted permanently and cannot be redirected to any other page.

    Thanks for your time,
    K

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention.

For both of your questions, yes, you can set them as redirects in Rank Math. You will just need to ensure that those redirects are set up from the old website as redirects will only work from the source domain.

    I hope that helps.

    Thank you.

    Hi:

    Thanks for replying.

The domain name doesn’t change. I’ll be pointing the domain name to the new site from the domain registrar. So how will I set it up from the old website?

    Thanks,

    Hello,

If the domain name is the same then you can create the redirects using our redirection module on your new site.

Hope this clarifies your doubts. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch in case you need any other assistance.

    Thanks.
