Redirection for paginated pages - Support

Hello RankMath team,

I’m writing this on behalf of one of my clients who has a paid RankMath account. I tried setting up 301 redirections for some of the paginated pages that are showing up as Soft 404 error in Google. The client changed their setup and does not have paginated archive pages anymore.

I used simple logic to capture any other page under the old category but it doesn’t work.
From (contains) https://vegconomist.com/category/politics-society/page/
To: https://vegconomist.com/category/politics-law/

Could you please tell me what I’m missing?

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

I’ve checked the URL, and it is redirecting to a 404 error.

Could you please share the redirection setup you have used so we can check? If you wanted to share screenshots, you can upload them using this tool and share the link here.

Meanwhile, if you’re using the Contains method, you should only insert the word “page” in the source URL. Here’s a link for more information:

thanks for your fast reply. I want any page (xxx/page/1, xxx/page/7…) to be redirected to the category I added in the redirection.

Hello,

In order to redirect the paginated pages, please try using the following method and rules:
```
Match Type: Regex
Source URLs: category/politics-society/(.*)
Destination URL: https://vegconomist.com/category/politics-law/
```

Thank you for getting back to me.

I tried your suggestion including the page slug: category/politics-society/page/(.*) and it doesn’t work.
I can’t use a generic 301 redirection to forward everything that used to be under the category /politics-society/ to the new category /politics-law/ – I only need the URLs that show up as Soft 404 errors and were paginated to be redirected to /politics-law/.

Do you have other ideas on how to fix this?
