Hi, my site currently has a woocommerce shop with over 10k products.

I intend to shut it down soon.

Question is, how do I manage the redirections? And should I set up a custom page to inform users that the shop is currently closed?

One more question: if in the future I install woocommerce again, will the products become live again?

    Thanks.

  • Hello,

Thanks for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

    1. You can create a custom page to inform the users that your shop is closed and redirect all the product URLs to it. Assuming that you are using product as the base of your product URLs, you can create a redirection rule like this:

    Source: product/(.*)
    Match: Regex
Destination: URL of your custom page

    2. If you don’t clear the data of WooCommerce from the database, the product pages should work again when you reactivate WooCommerce. However, it can take some time for them to get listed in the SERPs again and gain the position that they are currently ranking on.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you need any other assistance.

    Hi thanks for your suggestion.

I have just checked my woocommerce setting and products are indeed set to a custom base /product/

However, I find in google search console that there are some pages are ranking which has this format: /manufacturer /brand /product-category

    How should I handle them?

And the screenshot you showed above, where do I go to set this up?

Lastly. how do I clear the database?

    Thanks.

    Hello,

You can create multiple redirections as given below:

    Source: manufacturer/(.*)
    Match: Regex
Destination: URL of your custom page

    Source: product-category/(.*)
    Match: Regex
Destination: URL of your custom page

    Source: brand/(.*)
    Match: Regex
Destination: URL of your custom page

You can create the redirections in the Redirections module of our plugin. Please make sure that the Redirections module is enabled in WP Dashboard > Rank Math > Dashboard. Then navigate to WP Dashboard > Rank Math > Redirections to create the redirections.

And if you want to use the products again in the future, it is recommended to not clean the database so WooCommerce can retrieve all the products when you enable it again.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you need any other assistance.

I think I’m a bit confused. So when I remove the products, they no longer exist. When someone clicks on a url, it should go to a 404 page right? Or will they still be redirected to a custom page?

    Hello,

Yes, if you have already removed/deleted the product, they should show a 404 not found error.

However, if you have set something in Rank Math > General Settings > Redirections > Fallback Behavior, they will land either on your custom page or homepage.

Here’s a link for more information:

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.
