Redirected URLs Still Appearing in Sitemap

    Hi team,

We’ve redirected some blog URLs to other pages, but they still appear in the sitemap, causing “3XX redirect in sitemap” errors during audits.

We’d prefer not to use noindex to avoid losing link equity. Is there a way in Rank Math to exclude these redirected URLs from the sitemap without applying noindex?

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with redirected URLs still appearing in your sitemap. Thank you for raising this concern.

Currently, Rank Math does not provide a direct option to exclude specific URLs from the sitemap based on redirection status. However, you can manage your sitemap settings to ensure that only the desired URLs are included. Here are a few steps you can take:

    1. Check Your Sitemap Settings: Go to Rank Math SEO → Sitemap Settings and review the settings to ensure that only the necessary post types and taxonomies are included in the sitemap.

    2. Remove Redirected URLs Manually: If there are specific URLs that you want to exclude, you can manually remove them from the sitemap by using filters in your theme’s functions.php file. You can add a filter to exclude certain URLs from being included in the sitemap.

    3. Update Your Sitemap: After making changes, make sure to regenerate your sitemap. You can do this by going to Rank Math SEO → Sitemap Settings and clicking on the "Save Changes" button to refresh the sitemap.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please reply to this ticket with your site URL so we can assist you further. A human agent will take over and provide more tailored support.

    Thank you for your understanding!

What if we set these redirected blog posts to private—would that remove them from the sitemap without affecting link equity?

    Hello,

When you set the visibility of a page as private, the page is marked noindex, and thus, we automatically remove it from the sitemaps.

If you don’t want to set them to noindex, you can change their canonical URL to reference the redirection destination URL.

We hope this helps. Please let us know if you have further questions or concerns.

    Thank you.
