    Hi there,

I have rebranded and copied my site to the new domain name. I need help redirecting the old site to the new domain. I have tried the redirect steps but it doesn’t seem to be working.

    Thanks in advance

    Kylie

  • Hi Kylie! Congrats on the rebranding! Sorry to hear that the redirect isn’t working. I’d be happy to help you with that. Can you please share the steps you’ve tried so far and any error messages you’ve encountered? Additionally, I’ll install the Rank Math plugin to help with the redirect and SEO optimization. Let’s get your old site redirected to the new domain successfully!

    Hi Danish,

Thanks so much! I’ve followed all the steps outlined by the chat bot and in the “how to set up redirections” in the knowledge base article. I’m not getting an error message per se, it seems to work. But when I test by going to my old site it doesn’t redirect.

    Hi Kylie!

Let’s try a few more troubleshooting steps:

    – Make sure the Rank Math plugin is activated and up-to-date.
    – Check if any other plugins or settings are conflicting with the redirect.
    – Try clearing your browser cache and testing again.
    – Check the redirection logs in Rank Math to see if the redirect is being triggered.

If none of these steps work, we might need to dive deeper into the issue.

    Hi Danish,

Where do I find the redirection logs to check? I have completed the other steps.

Also, just to confirm; I cannot redirect the home page so I am using any page from the old site as my source, selecting “contains” and using the homepage URL for the destination?

To find the redirection logs in Rank Math, follow these steps:

    1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
    2. Go to Rank Math > Redirections.
    3. Click on the “Logs” tab.
    4. Select the log type: “Redirection Logs” or “404 Logs”.
    5. Choose the date range and other filters as needed.
    6. Click “Apply Filters” to view the logs.

    Regarding your confirmation question:

Yes, that’s correct! Since you can’t redirect the home page directly, using any page from the old site as the source and selecting “contains” is a good workaround. By using the homepage URL as the destination, any URL from the old site that matches the source page will redirect to the homepage of your new site.

If you’re still having issues, feel free to share more details, and I’ll help you investigate!

    Hi Danish,

I don’t have a “logs” tab anywhere. there is only “add new”, “export options”, “learn more” and “settings”.

Would it be best to redirect every page individually?

I’ve checked the redirect on https://httpstatus.io and it looks like it’s redirecting back to itself, not the new site. But the new site is definitely in the destination section on rank math

    Did you setup DNS settings?

Sorry I’m not sure what you mean by that. DNS settings in RankMath? Or for my website?

I’m referring to the DNS settings for your website. DNS (Domain Name System) settings control how your domain name directs traffic to your website.

To update your DNS settings, you’ll need to access your DNS provider (usually your domain registrar or web host). This is not related to RankMath, which is an SEO plugin for WordPress.

Here’s a brief overview of the process:

    1. Log in to your DNS provider’s control panel (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare)
    2. Find the DNS settings for your domain (Domain1)
    3. Update the DNS records to point to the new domain (Domain2)
    4. Save the changes

This will ensure that when someone visits Domain1, they’ll be redirected to Domain2.

Oh! Sorry I haven’t read anywhere that I needed to do that. It was my understanding that I just needed to redirect the old site to the new site and that would also maintain my SEO. Thank you, I will look into this.

I think I might need to pay someone to help me with this so I will look into that.

it’s the DNS part that isn’t making sense to me. Nowhere in the Redirect document does it mention that. If I can simply set the DNS to send all traffic to the new domain, what is the point of the redirect in RankMath?
