redirect attachments to image file – sitemaps

    Hello
First of all i followed the instructions here https://rankmath.com/kb/filters-hooks-api-developer/#how-to-add-code-snippets-to-rank-math-php and it broke my site at the point of creating rank-math-php file. Thankfully it was restored when i removed it.
So first question is about this if there is a safe way to do this.

Second i would like to ask about the sitemaps. I currently use jetpack sitemap which by default includes attachments pages in it and i obviously do not prefer that. I have made them no-index a couple of weeks ago with rank math but they are still on the jetpack sitemap. Should they still be there?

Now i have added the redirection option to the original post that rank math offers, but this is not so ok because there are many orphan images on my site. Is it bad for seo to include attachments in it which redirect? Because doing an audit with ahrefs gives the “Noindex page in sitemap” error.

Finally i am thinking of starting using rank math sitemaps and i would like you to guide me with a safe way to migrate. This is because removing attachments from the sitemap is included as an option to rank math. It will not affect the actual images correct?

I wuld appreciate your feedback to all of the above which are kind of connected together.

    Thanks

    Hello,

We do not create individual sitemaps for images, rather, we include the images with the post/page/CPT URL that the image is attached with. This helps search engine bots to relate the images with the actual post/page/CPT that the image is attached with.

If you would look at the source of the sitemaps, you’ll be able to find the image links.

Search engine bots would also see the source of the sitemaps and they would easily be able to find the images in the sitemaps.

Please have a look at this screencast for a quick reference:

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.

Ok so to create a temporary login for you i need an email, a name, a last name.
Could you give me those? I will create a login for 3 hours is it ok?
How does ot help to delete the robots.txt file?

    Hello,

To delete a physical robots.txt file on your site, you must provide/share your FTP login credentials in the sensitive data section.

If you’re unsure about the FTP, you can ask your web host to provide them for you.

Alternatively, your web host can also help you deleting (at least renaming) the robots.txt file on your site. If you do so, Rank Math automatically generates a default/recommended robots.txt virtually on your website.

    I hope that helps.

    Thank you.

    Hi
I am asking about why should i remove the robots file, what is the benefit?

    Hello
If you could please respond a bit more soon.
    Thanks

    Hello,

We apologize for the unexpected delays.

Rank Math has a feature to generate a standard robots.txt file if the plugin can’t find a physical file in the server.

If you remove a physical robots.txt file from your server (if you proceed on doing so, please back it up instead of deleting it), Rank Math will generate a standard robots.txt file that should work well on search engines.

If you wish for us to further check the sitemap issue on your website, please use this email address s******@r*********** to create a temporary login.

If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We are looking forward to helping you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Thanks for sharing the login link.

I checked your sitemap and it is working fine. There is no issue regarding your sitemap. The images are also being included in your sitemap.

Please check on your end and let us know if you face any issues.

    Looking forward to helping you.

the issue is that it does not load. I described it before in the conversation. Could it be an issue of the browser? Give me some feedback with this.

    Hello,

I checked your sitemap and it is loading without any issues. Please clear the cache of your browser & site and try again.

You can also check in a different browser and let us know if the issue persists.

    Looking forward to your update.

i noticed that in chrome it does open. How can i fix it in firefox?

    Hello,

I have checked your sitemap in Firefox and it is loading fine. Please clear the cache of your browser and check again. If you’re using any extensions then please disable them and check if that fixes the issue.

Let us know how that goes. Looking forward to your update.

Well there is a very strange behavior going on Sherlock! It seems it has sth to do with extensions, but each time i disable or i enable an extension the problem is fixed for a few seconds and then it happens again. I did a lot of experiments disabling and re-enabling and it is the same. So the problem seems not to emerge from a specific extension, but from a general behavior.

    Hello,

I’ve noticed some issues with your sitemap, the sitemap page is blank.

Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.

To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Here is a video you can follow as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcIWRhcUP2c

Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.

Also, please double-check if the sitemaps are excluded from your caching plugin.

Regarding Firefox, could you confirm if you’re using the latest version of it? If not, then please update the browser and see if that fixes the issue.

Please let us know how that goes.

    Thank you.
