Re-brand, URL SEO

Hi, we are rebranding our site and we have bought 2 domains which are more appropriate to our service than our current domain.

We have 1 domain for users who visit our physical location, and 1 domain who use our online services. We want both domains to point to the same site, and then we would like to eventually leave our current domain.

Where’s the best place to start from an SEO point of view?

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention.

We want both domains to point to the same site, and then we would like to eventually leave our current domain.

Could you please confirm here if you wanted to redirect the 2 domains you have recently bought to your current site?

From your statement, you wanted to set up 2 websites (one for physical and one for online services), resulting in 2 different websites (not cloned). Please correct me if I’m wrong.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hi, thanks for your reply.

Yes, I want the 2 domains we have recently bought to point to our current site, and then the current domain to disappear when the contract expires.

No, I don’t want two different sites, just the one if that’s possible?

    Hello,

You can point your both new domain to your current one with the help of 301 redirections inside your domain control panel or the hosting control panel, whichever you prefer when you feel like you need to move your current domain to your new one (Don’t wait for the expiry else you will not be able to redirect as you will lose access of current the domain) inform google about changing the domain when you successfully moved to your new one. However, you will still see your old URLs inside SERPs, and that is normal as it takes time to eradicate your old URLs.

Make sure 301 redirections are active from the old domain to the new one, or else you will lose your traffic. We don’t want this to happen.
