rank seo plugin issue

    Rank Math free

Hello, I’ve been having issues with the rankmath seo plugin. I was unable to index my sitemaps because it was Excluded by ‘noindex’ tag and I checked every option in the plugin to make sure ‘index’ was checked not ‘noindex’ and everything seemed fine but on google console I still got Excluded by ‘noindex’ tag 61 pages. I got support from dreamhost and they were able to add a code that was supposed to remove or override the ‘noindex’ tag and even that didn’t work. My google console report came back and said now there was a ‘noindex’ tag and ‘allow index’ tag which was confusing the crawl bots. Once I deactivated rankmath seo I was able to get those pages in to get fixed and indexed. I really enjoy this plugin but I’m not happy with the issues it’s given me. Is there a way to fix this?

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issues you are facing with the Rank Math SEO plugin. It sounds frustrating to deal with the ‘noindex’ tag and the confusion it has caused in Google Search Console.

To address the ‘Excluded by noindex tag’ issue, here are some steps you can take:

    1. Identify Affected Pages: First, check which pages are affected by the ‘noindex’ tag in Google Search Console. You can do this by navigating to the Pages section and clicking on Not indexed. Then, click on the “Excluded by ‘noindex’ tag” status to see the list of affected pages.

    2. Remove NoIndex Tags: For each affected page, ensure that the ‘noindex’ tag is removed. You can do this by checking the page’s HTML code or using the Rank Math settings:

      • Go to the Rank Math SEO meta box on the edit screen of each page and ensure that the ‘noindex’ option is not selected.
      • Additionally, check your Settings → Reading in your WordPress dashboard. Make sure that the checkbox labeled Discourage search engines from indexing this site is unchecked.
        Leave Search engine visibility unchecked
    3. Check for Conflicting Plugins or Themes: Sometimes, other plugins or themes may add conflicting ‘noindex’ tags. Review any other SEO-related plugins or settings that might be affecting your site.

    4. Crawl Settings: Ensure that your pages are not blocked from crawling in your robots.txt file. If they are blocked, Google may not recognize that the ‘noindex’ tag has been removed.

    5. Re-submit Sitemaps: After making these changes, re-submit your sitemap in Google Search Console to prompt Google to re-crawl your site.
