For initial troubleshooting, please reinstall the Rank Math plugin on your site. All of your settings and data are saved in your database so there shouldn’t be any data loss upon doing so.
If the issue still persists, assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.

I installed that and followed the steps. It was not clear what caused the conflict, but now it no longer appears.

If following the steps in the tutorial fixes the issue it’s clearly a conflict with another plugin.
This could also be caused by some caching plugin on the website and maybe initiating the troubleshooting clears the cache from the website and fixes the issue.
If you are using a caching plugin you should make sure it’s not caching anything in the backend of WordPress.
