Rank Math says I’m not using the focus keyword (while I actually am)

  • Hi,

I’ve just installed the plugin because i’ve got nice feedbacks about it. Indeed, the plugin works fine, except for one particular thing.
For posts, I am setting my focus keyword, and I get extremely bad scores, despite those posts were already SEO optimized.
After checking this out, I’ve noticed that Rank Math were saying that I’m not using the focus keyword on critical spots (title, first 10% of body, slug etc.), while the focus keyword actually is present at those places.
After studying the problem a bit further, I’ve noticed that the plugin were unhappy if I were to use the focus keyword with the individual words in a different order than specified, or with additionnal words between them.

For short, if the focus keyword were not an exact “copy-paste” in my post, the plugin considers it is absent.
For instance, if I’m using the focus keyword “brew homemade beer” and the title says “Guide to brew your own homemade beer”, Rank Math won’t be happy about it. But if the title instead says “Guide to brew homemade beer”, the plugin will light up green.

Since I’m mostly using SEO plugins for post specific SEO, this is quite crippling to me.
What could I do to fix this ?

Also, it might be important to solve the issue: I’m writing in French, and using French Keywords, so maybe that matters too.

Thanks in advance for your support !
    Regards,

    Mathieu.

  • Hello,

Thank you for getting in touch with us.

Currently, Rank Math looks for the exact match of the focus keyword. We look for the phrase exactly like you type it in the focus keyword. If there is a variation, Rank Math will not be able to detect it.

This is something we are working on improving though. A future update of Rank Math will have much more enhanced detection engine.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Hi Uzair,

Thanks for your heads-up ! I really love the interface of Rank Math, but since I’m mostly using long-tailed keywords, it’s quite rare that I’ve got them in the exact same order throughout the entire post (fortunately, otherwise it would be cliché)

Do you have any idea about when will this kind of update be released ?

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hello,

We do not have a definite release date as yet. However, you can keep an eye at our change-log to get an update when it is added: https://rankmath.com/changelog/

    Hope that helps.
