Could you please double-check if you have multiple posts having /article/ in the slug? If yes, then this is a default WordPress behavior.
If you already have a post having article as the slug and you create another post with the same slug, then the new post’s slug would be suffixed with a hyphen and a number.
And in the redirects section, Rank Math made this redirect to the new URL.
Could you please confirm whether this redirection was automatically created when you updated the post?

The only article with this slug is the one I was editing. But as I mentioned, it automatically added the “-2” suffix to the end of the URL.
While in the redirects section, the redirect was created, also automatically.
This does not have much importance because it is an article with few visits, but it would be worrying if it happened with an article with authority, which would make me lose visits.

I have tried to modify the slug, that is, to remove the “-2” part, but the system won’t let me. I update the post and there are no changes.
The sitemap no longer shows the old slug, but the new one does.

We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your Website’s URL & WordPress logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

I’ve checked your site, and it seems that you have an attachment with the same name as that URL and the Redirect Attachments option is enabled on your site. I’ve attached a screencast in the sensitive data section.
Please note that the redirect attachment option will automatically have the media URLs prioritized over other similar URLs. Could you please rename and reupload that image and try changing the slug of that post?

You can keep the redirect attachments option on, but make sure that the image URLs are different from what you want to use on the posts/pages.
Please upload the image again and set a different slug for that image.
