Product archive page vs individually created pages – best for seo?

This is more of a best practice question: is it better to create products archive pages that rely on woocommerce’s product category or is it better to create individual pages for each product category and link them in via the menu?

I was given advice by an SEO expert (I am a novice) that I should try & get the products archive page ranked for SEO, rather than the individual product pages. The content would be almost identical between the products archive page and the individual product page, except that I might have multiple keywords for the products archive page, while each product page will have 1 keyword.

Is this sound logic and what’s the best way to go about this please?

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math support today and bringing your concern to our attention.

Usually, you shouldn’t focus on the archives pages as Google tends to focus and rank individual pages with complete content rather than category archives pages that only lists your products associated with it. But, since you mentioned that your archive page and your individual product page share the same content, you may also try to optimize your archive page.

Optimizing your archive page depends entirely on you, that is why we gave the option to enable SEO controls to category pages.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
