Primary Category Selection Missing in Classic Editor

We encountered almost the same issue as reported by another user here, but instead of Gutenberg Editor, ours was with the Classic Editor. We use the Disable Gutenberg plugin (version 2.5.1) on WordPress 5.7.2.

Our issue is that when we select multiple categories, the radio button does not appear for us to choose the primary category (as is with the above report). This issue occurred only after we updated Rank Math SEO to version 1.0.70 (possibly even one version before that) as previously everything worked fine and we were able to choose a primary category for our posts.

We tried to use another plugin, Select Primary Category (version 1.0) by Deniz Ă–zsen to force the selection of a primary category, but neither the permalink nor the breadcrumb in the front-end changes to reflect the chosen primary category.

We searched everywhere for a solution but couldn’t find anything until we stumbled upon the above report. What struck us was the last reply which says, “I’ve just tested Yoast SEO’s Primary Category feature, and it works as expected in the block editor. The Make Term Primary string on the screenshot is from the Rank Math plugin.”

Could this be something that has slipped under your radar?

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math, and sorry for any inconvenience caused.

It seems to be working fine on our end:

Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.

To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:

Here is a video you can follow as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcIWRhcUP2c

Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.

We really look forward to helping you.

Hi, thanks for your reply! We followed your suggestion and installed the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin to troubleshoot. In the end, we determined that Interlinks Manager (version 1.23) by DAEXT is the plugin causing the conflict. The issue isn’t just with the inability to choose the primary category. With Interlinks Manager plugin installed, the Rank Math SEO meta box cannot be expanded in the Edit Post view.

We have contacted the plugin author and are awaiting a response.
