    Hi
I’ve noticed these problems for a long time but didnt know what was causing them and had other things to focus on but I wonder if this is something you might be able to help with. I noticed that my preview image never shows on posts when I share the link in whatsapp anymore. Also, although I had a developer configure schema markup so that smippets showed the preview image, that also doesn’t seem to work. Is this something you can help with ?

    Kind regards

    Andrew

  • Hello,

As you have done all the settings that are required. The only thing we can do is wait. Moreover, there’s a recent update on the Google SERP algorithm, may be that can help to get the image indexed in Google.

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.

Surely you know if waiting was going to work it would have worked by now. Even I know these changes don’t take more than a year to take affect. If it isnt working its because I havent done something correctly and need the sort of support I’m asking you for, i.e. check what I have done and whether there is more I can do.

    Hello,

The only job of our plugin is to help you apply the elements needed to optimize an image for SEO. It is up to the search engine if they wish to honor that, so we don’t have full control over it.

One main factor to obtain images on the SERP is to have good domain authority.

Can you please share your website URL so we can take a closer look at the images you have added and advice further?

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I’ve checked some of your images, and it seems that the images’ file names and ALT text are not descriptive enough like in this listing:

Please follow the guide that we have shared to increase the chances of your images appearing on the search results pages as we have mentioned here:

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.

I appreciate descriptions are good for SEO but you’re forgetting what this enquiry is about. This is enquiry is about the preview images not showing. That is not affected by descriptions.

    Hello,

The preview links on WhatsApp have a limitation set by the application that is not set by other platforms such as Facebook.

The WhatsApp platform has a limit on the size of the image and it works best for images that are below 300Kb in size, even though it’s possible that some images above that might show sometimes but it’s very finicky and not consistent.

Besides that, on the desktop WhatsApp application, there are currently some issues that have been reported where the preview image is not showing for the vast majority of the users.

In terms of showing the images on SERPs when people search for your pages, those don’t rely on any Schema markup so trying to set that with Rich Snippets will not work as the Google algorithm fetches the first suitable image that it can find on the page and displays it on SERPs if the domain has enough authority and it’s suitable for the search term, so the description of the images is very important to help Google understand if the image is related to the search term or not.

Ultimately, when it comes to images on SERPs besides improving the domain authority and increasing the SEO of your images with titles and ALT tags there’s nothing else you can do to influence the Google algorithm.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

Thanks Miguel, I guess I must have been wrongly advised on the Snippet and search engine results. That was part of a paid for project as well so I’m sure you can imagine I’m pretty dissapointed to hear that. So how did they work when he ran the project? Are you saying he must have just optimised specific snippets so the preview image came up in the results? Based on what you said, that seems pretty clever, he must have really understood the Google Algorythm to be able to do that on selected snippet/s. Is that what you’re suggesting? Kind regards, Andrew

    Hello,

The placement of images on SERPs depends on so many factors that are subject to change that it’s impossible to pinpoint exactly what was done in the project that made these work.

One thing we are sure and it’s even mentioned in countless Google support subjects is that the Schema markup is not relevant for this.

    Here’s one example: https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/90873222/how-to-get-image-thumbnails-to-show-in-search-results?hl=en

Basically, you just need to have the image on the page and everything else is controlled by things like the optimization of the ALT tags, titles, meta descriptions, domain authority, and all the other off-page optimization ranking factors.

Hope this helps shed some light on the situation.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.
