My product title is as follows:
“Fraction puzzles worksheets – includes free variations”
I’ve deliberately include ‘free’ as a power word. However, RankMath is still telling me:
‘Your title doesn’t contain a power word. Add at least one.’
Why is this?

Hello,
Thanks for contacting us and we regret the inconvenience caused.
It seems to be working fine on our end, I also tested by entering the exact title that you’ve used in your product, and the power word is detected without any issues. Please have a look at this screencast for a quick reference: https://i.rankmath.com/923HWc
Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.
To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:
https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.
Please let us know how that goes.
Thank you.
Thanks for the swift reply. I do have Site Health installed and I followed the instructions. Since I am editing a product, the only plugin other than RankMath that I had to enable was Woocommerce, since I cannot see any products without it active.
Even with nothing other than RankMath, WooCommerce and the Twenty Twenty theme enabled, RankMath STILL tells me there is no power word detected.
I’m running WordPress 5.7.1 and DIVI 4.9.4 (child theme installed). All my other themes/plugins are also completely up to date and I have no disabled plugins installed.
Hello,
Thanks for your reply.
We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/
You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.
Hello,
I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?
Thank you.
Hello,
Thank you for sharing additional details.
I have checked your website and shared product page in sensitive area. I see the Rank Math plugin and its features are working perfectly fine. The power words are easily detected at our end.
It might be possible that you have not used or included the power word in your meta title. Please refer to the screencast in the sensitive area that I have shared.
Please refer to this guide and list of power words you can use as per your preference and needs:
https://rankmath.com/blog/power-words/We hope that helps. Please let us know if you need help with anything else.
Thanks
Ok, I think I now understand what’s happening. When Rankmath displays “Your title doesn’t include…” it’s actually referring to the title field in the Rank Math SEO section of form. I thought it was referring to the product title at the very top of the page. I was trying to add the power word to the product title, not the snippet title. I can now see that adding the power word to the snippet title does indeed result in that message being replaced with a successful one.
This raises the following question. If adding power words is recommended for the snippet title, does that not mean that it’s also recommended to use them elsewhere as well, such as in the product title, product description, etc.? It seems that Rankmath is ONLY checking for power words in the snippet title. Is that intentional and desirable?
Hello,
Thank you for asking further questions.
I am glad that my screencast helped you out with the power words.
Regarding your further question, let me try to answer and explain it to you.
The power words are used in meta titles only in the snippet section. It is used to attract the users to click on the website link when it shows as an impression at SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages). This feature helps you to increase the CTR of your indexed and ranked website URL in search engines.
You can even skip mentioning power words in your snippet. It would only affect the CTR of your rank website link at SERP.
Whereas the product titles are concerned, they have the keywords at both titles and meta description. The keywords are used to let the search engines know specifically about your content.
Conclusion: Power words are majorly for CTR purposes only and should be used only in the meta title in the snippet section.
Keywords have a completely different role to optimize your content to rank at search engines. We hope that helps. Please let us know if you need help with anything else.
Thanks
