Persistent Sitemap Indexing Issue in Google Search Console – ‘Sitemaps read’

    Dear Rank Math Support Team,

I am experiencing a persistent issue related to sitemap indexing in Google Search Console for my domain dailyhindinews24.in, and I suspect it might be related to a problem with Rank Math.

    Problem Description:

    1.
‘Sitemaps read’ section is blank in Google Search Console: When I submit sitemap_index.xml in Google Search Console, it is successfully read, but the ‘Sitemaps read’ section (which should display individual sitemaps like /post-sitemap.xml and /page-sitemap.xml contained within sitemap_index.xml) remains completely blank.

    2.
Old ‘Discovered URLs’: The ‘Discovered pages’ count for sitemap_index.xml still shows old data from 2024 (e.g., 16 URLs), even though my website currently has no content or very little content. This count does not match my current setup.

    3.
Individual Sitemaps appear correct: Interestingly, when I submit /post-sitemap.xml and /page-sitemap.xml directly in Google Search Console, they show the correct number of URLs and are successfully read.

    4.
Sitemap Access in Browser: I have confirmed by accessing https://dailyhindinews24.in/sitemap_index.xml directly in my browser that it loads correctly and displays links to /post-sitemap.xml and /page-sitemap.xml.

What I have tried so far:

I have checked Rank Math’s settings, and it appears to be generating the sitemap correctly.

I have disabled and re-enabled the sitemap feature within Rank Math.

I have removed and re-submitted the sitemap in Google Search Console multiple times.

I have also tried disabling all caching plugins and clearing their caches.

My robots.txt file is correctly configured and is not blocking Googlebot from accessing the sitemap.

Since the individual sitemaps are working correctly, but the sitemap_index.xml is not being processed correctly in Google Search Console (specifically, the ‘Sitemaps read’ section is blank and old ‘Discovered URLs’ persist), I suspect there might be an issue with how Google Search Console interacts with the sitemap_index.xml generated by Rank Math, or Google is somehow misinterpreting it.

Could you please investigate this issue and help me understand why Google Search Console is showing the ‘Sitemaps read’ section as blank and why the old ‘Discovered URLs’ are persisting, even though the sitemap files themselves appear to be correct?

    Thank you, [Vashudev Kumar] [d**********************@g********]

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the sitemap indexing in Google Search Console. Thank you for providing detailed information about your problem; it helps us understand the situation better.

Based on your description, here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue further:

    1. Validate Your Sitemap: Use the Validate XML Sitemap tool to ensure that your sitemap is correctly configured. This can help identify any underlying issues that might not be immediately visible.

    2. Check Sitemap Accessibility: Ensure that your sitemap is accessible by using a tool like httpstatus.io. Enter your sitemap URL and check the status to identify any issues preventing Googlebot from accessing it.

    3. Ensure Posts Are Set to Index: Make sure that your posts are set to index. You can do this by going to Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta and ensuring the Index checkbox is enabled in the Robots Meta settings.

    4. Check for Caching Issues: Since you’ve already disabled caching plugins, ensure that your server-side caching (if any) is also cleared. Sometimes, server-level caching can interfere with sitemap updates.

    5. Review Robots.txt File: Double-check your robots.txt file to ensure there are no rules blocking access to your sitemap. You can view and edit this in Rank Math SEO → General Settings → robots.txt.

    6. Monitor Google Search Console: After making changes, give Google some time to re-crawl your sitemap. You can check the last crawl date in Google Search Console to see if it has been updated.
