I’d like to use the word Games in categories and tags. Disabling your option to remove the word category from the path solves the problem.
Unfortunately, the posts have automatic redirects to the homepage. I waited 2 years for you to solve the problem and I still tried to rank on Google. But internal links are poor according to google, and I am waiting for your solution or response.

Hello,
I apologize for the inconvenience you are facing with your permalink structure and automatic redirects on your website. To address the issue of using the word "Games" in categories and tags without automatic redirects to the homepage, you can follow these steps:
-
Disable the Option to Remove the Word "Category" from the Path:
- By keeping this option enabled, you can prevent automatic redirects to the homepage when using the word "Games" in categories and tags.
-
Check for Redirects in Rank Math:
- Open your Rank Math settings and navigate to the redirections section.
- Look for any redirects that might be causing the automatic redirection to the homepage.
- If you find any conflicting redirects, delete them to prevent the issue.
-
Improve Internal Linking:
- To enhance internal linking on your website, ensure that your posts are properly interlinked.
- Use relevant anchor text when linking between your posts to improve SEO and user experience.
If you have already tried these steps and the issue persists, please reply to this ticket with more details or screenshots, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further.
Thank you for your patience, and we are here to help you resolve this issue.
Best regards.

Analyzing Your Site’s SEO with Rank Math’s SEO Analysis ToolHello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math support.
If the Strip Category Base was enabled before and you have now disabled it to add the category base, then the old URLs will return a 404 error. There is no way to redirect them automatically or in bulk. You will have to create a redirect manually for each category URL.
You can also ignore the 404 errors and wait for Google to index the new category URLs with the base.
Please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
Yes, I turned off category removal just before writing. Luckily only on the staging site.
It is the new URLs that give the 404 code, those of the posts.
Hello,
The post URLs will not be affected by the Strip Category Base option. It will only affect the category URLs. Your post URLs will still work fine. If they are returning a 404 error, then you must have made some changes to the permalink structure of the posts.
Please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
Hello,
You have included
games
in the post permalinks. In this case, you will have to redirect each old post URL to the new one manually. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
As I feared, the redirects you suggested were completely off the mark!
Now I have all the post URLs with code 301 on the homepage. Please, I’ve been reporting this error for 2 years!
Hello,
The redirections on the staging website are being targeted by the live website and hence it’s impossible to fully debug the issue there.
This is happening because the staging website is added to a sub-folder and thus the main domain redirections are still being triggered.
Our plugin only redirects from 3 places:
1. The Redirections module which can be accessed by going to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math SEO > Redirections.
2. The option to redirect attachments which is available under WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math SEO > General Settings > Links.
3. The fallback for 404 pages which can be accessed under WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math SEO > General Settings > Redirections.
To debug the redirections, if you are sure they are happening from our plugin you need to head over to places and check the settings on those are not conflicting with the permalink you expect for the pages.
Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.
I don’t understand. I put redirects to the homepage on the live site. On the staging site, imagine that these redirects are imposed on the staging site page and not to the live site. Why do I have post conflicts? They shouldn’t go to the homepage!
I changed the settings on the live site, but I have no improvement. https://imgur.com/a/kL4K6dM
Hello,
The pages are returning a 404 page which would indicate that the permalink you are trying to access is not the correct one for that particular page/post.
You can check what is the permalink of that page by accessing it in the backend and looking at the data from WordPress related to it.
If the permalink is the same, it could be a case of just needing to flush the permalinks by going to WordPress Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks and hitting the save button.
Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.
The problem occurs with categories. I’ve had this problem for 4 years and 2 different sites. I think it’s a wordpress problem, as I always have the problem even with other themes and zero plugins.
Can you tell which WordPress github page I should write? I didn’t find the right section. I don’t want them to ban me on Github because I don’t write in the right place –”
I have been banned from their forum for 2 months and they are not reconsidering accepting my apology and agreeing to their terms. So I think the only way is on Github.
Also I can’t have /games/ in the path on the categories. I tried with redirects and it works, but in Rank Math breadcrumbs, the links appear without the redirects.
Strangely, only games appears in the tags, but it is code 404.
Hello,
It seems like you’ve marked this ticket as resolved.
Can you please confirm if you still need our assistance with this issue or anything else?
Looking forward to hearing back from you.
Thank you.
After 4 years I understood that the permalink must not contain /games/ both in the posts and in the categories and tags. In the posts I put /game/.
Maybe I will finally be able to get traffic on the site because now the URL structure is as it should be!
