page URL slugs automatically changing

    Rank Math free

    Hi there,

I have this same issue across multiple sites and I think that I have narrowed it down to Rankmath being the issue and I’m hoping you can help.

Quite often, for some reason my URLs will automatically change themselves after i have edited a page.

For example, if I edit the “/about” page, it will change itself to /about-2-2. or something to a different page slug completely like /contact-2

This happens fairly regularly and i think it is either my litespeed cache plugin doing this or rankmath doing it. as i have made a site recently without these 2 things and i have had no issues at all. I thought that rankmath is more likely to be doing this.

Do you know why this issue could be? the sites where i use Yoast SEO do not have this issue.

I have tried going into the permalink settings and clicking save changes – still happens

I use elementor with my sites

    Thanks,
    -James

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the URL slugs changing automatically. This can indeed be frustrating.

The behavior you’re describing, where slugs change to something like /about-2-2 or /contact-2, typically occurs when there is a conflict or an issue with how the slugs are being generated or saved. Here are a few things to consider:

    1. Permalink Settings: Since you’ve already tried saving the permalink settings, ensure that your permalink structure is set correctly in the WordPress settings.

    2. Plugin Conflicts: It’s possible that there might be a conflict between Rank Math and other plugins, such as your LiteSpeed cache plugin or Elementor. You might want to try temporarily disabling these plugins one by one to see if the issue persists.

    3. Rank Math Settings: Check if there are any specific settings in Rank Math that might be affecting the slugs. Sometimes, certain configurations can lead to unexpected behavior.

    4. Caching Issues: Since you mentioned using a caching plugin, it could be caching old slugs. Clear your cache after making changes to see if that resolves the issue.

    5. Database Issues: In rare cases, there could be issues with the database itself. Running a database optimization or repair might help.

If none of these suggestions resolve the issue, we recommend replying to this ticket so that a human agent from the Rank Math Support team can take a closer look at your specific situation and provide further assistance.
