Page SEO feature not working

Hi, I’m getting a “Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.” message when I try to update the page SEO. I’m using Elementor and thought I found a workaround by updating the SEO using the Elementor page editor but it worked only 4 pages which now when I try to update (using the same method) has stopped working.

I’ve tried following this article https://docs.presscustomizr.com/article/195-http-error-403 but not sure I quite know where to find everything. Permissions for the plugin using a FTP client looked fine.

I used YoastSEO previously but it somehow got deleted by itself (I had to remove the plugin folder using a FTP client as WordPress kept telling me I couldn’t reinstall it because I already had it which was another issue), hence my move to RankMath. YoastSEO worked fine up until then, so it’s worrying me now that I’m not able to edit the SEO settings using RankMath.

    Hello,

Thanks for contacting us and we regret the inconvenience caused.

Please follow this troubleshooting guide to check if there can be plugin conflicts due to which you might not be able to save the metadata: https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

If the issue still persists, please also confirm if you have errors in the browser console (while updating the post/page) that might be blocking the updateMeta rule like this one:

    yourdomain.com/wp-json/rankmath/v1/updateMeta?_locale=user

If so, then please get in touch with your hosting provider or check that the firewall, either on your server or in Cloudflare is not blocking the following route:
    yourdomain.com/wp-json/rankmath/v1/updateMeta?_locale=user

Please refer to this tutorial guide for more details:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/meta-data-not-saving/#num-4-blocked-access-to-the-file

Please let us know how that goes.

    Thank you.

    Hi Prabhat,
Thank you, I was able to allow the I.P. address which was being blocked by my firewall and that did the trick. However, my other issue now is that Search Console is telling me that the “page-sitemap.xml” link in my sitemap cannot be read due to a “General HTTP error” and “Sitemap is HTML”. It’s also saying my sitemap was last read 17th May which would have been before I had RankMath. Is there a way I can force crawl that specific link in the sitemap?

    Hello,

We’re glad the first issue is resolved.

Please follow these steps to fix the sitemap issue:

    1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/pipRDp

    2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

Once done, remove all the sitemaps from the search console and add sitemap_index.xml and wait for Google to crawl the sitemap.

That should fix the issue. Please let me know if that does not. We are here to assist.

    Hello,
