Opengraph Thumbnail Bug?

    Hello

even though we use featured images for all our WP posts it seems RankMath randomly attaches the Opengraph Facebook Thumbnail to our Twitter Summary Card with Large Image instead of the featured image. It also does the same in facebook once that happens.

We currently have to manually add the featured image to Rank Path social media settings for it to show up in twitter summary card.
Also tried switching off USE DATA FROM FACEBOOK TAB with same result.

Any tips on how to skip the manual image adding for this to work as in past All in one SEO plugin?

    Thanks much

  • I’m trying to understand the same. The image won’t change and the text took 24 hours to change but looks terrible.

    Any fixes?

I should be getting the image I added manually and not the featured image of the page.

I also get “HOME ABOUT BLOG FAQ HOME ABOUT BLOG FAQ then my actual advert text here”. Instead of just the advert text on its own.

    Hello,

There are a few reasons for the Facebook (or any other social network like WhatsApp) not picking your images and other social tags. We will list them below so you can check which one applies in your case:

    0. You have added the social meta using the Rank Math plugin. Please check this screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/neHI8w

    1. First and foremost, you must check the page source of the URL in question. Search for the og:image tag like in this Video:
    https://i.rankmath.com/aJCccE

If the og:image tag is not found, that means Rank Math is either disabled or not able to print your social tags. Once done checking if Rank Math is enabled, you must check why it isn’t able to print social content by following this troubleshooting guide:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Make sure to follow all the instructions carefully.

    2. Assuming the og:image tag was found in step 1, we can proceed to find the issue.

Scenario 1: You are using minification on your website and your cache plugin is inputting too much inline CSS into your page source that your OpenGraph tags are pushed way too down your page’s source:
    https://i.rankmath.com/y4WIgQ

If this is the cache, you must move your inline CSS to a file because Facebook and other social networks will only look for OpenGraph tags in the first 60kbs of your page’s source. If they don’t find it, they will assume you haven’t added them. They don’t want to waste their resources crawling huge pages looking for OpenGraph tags.

Scenario 2: The gain browser cache option in most cache plugins like W3 Total Cache is known to not play well with Facebook’s OpenGraph detection. If you have it enabled, disable it. The option for W3 Total Cache is at WP > Performance > Browser Cache > HTTP (gzip) compression
    https://i.rankmath.com/BbaiC6

Then, clear your website and server cache (including Cloudflare – if enabled)

Once you are done, you might want to test again here:
    https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/

    Click the Scrape Again button:
    https://i.rankmath.com/A5z7WK

You should now see the OpenGraph tags update including the image.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Thank you.

Thanks for the response. It actually turned out to be the open graph plugin I had installed (and forgot about) that messed up RankMath. As soon as I deleted that, everything shows the way it should.

Thank you very much for the details above though. Still going to go through them just in case it causes me an issue in future.

    Daniel

Thanks a lot for your reply.
I will take a look at our settings although our problems started when we switched from the AllinOne Seo Plugin to Rankmath Plugin. We do like the Rankmath features though.

Hi Sorry for the late response. We have been testing our features and have still not been able to get the Twitter Summary Card Image to work for us.

    Facebook OG thumbnail works fine!

We followed all your technical help tips with no success.

Some quick info on our setup”

I believe we found the problem and solved the issue.

Our new breeze cache plugin asks for a // at the start of the CDN URL setup but we had to replace it with https:// in order for it to work.

    Thanks for your time.
